I have one that was used for spin art at a couple of different pre-school fairs, and have continued to use it for salad long afterward. It is also possible to use a single piece of paper folded into thirds; however, some people find this makes the final product less interesting as there are fewer lines on it. At the end of the 1960s she was one of the first artist to use centrifugal force to produce large-sized artworks.

When we were all done, we simply removed the container and the tape and sent it back to the basement to collect some more dust:) I love that we didn’t have to permanently alter the Lazy Susan to make our art.To make an adapter for attaching the drill chuck to the canvas, we drilled a pilot hole through the center of a 30″ plank and hammered in a 5/16″ spike T-nut.

The artists using this technique often reconfigure their own machines by incorporating a more powerful engine than those belonging to schools. We locked the drill’s trigger in the On position, and then plugged the drill into a switched extension cord so we could turn it on and off remotely. We have yet to meet a kid who doesn’t like spin painting, and if you haven’t tried it yet, we highly recommend giving it a try whether with a salad spinner or a machine.

A good model for this project would be the “Teachers’ Rotating Document Holder” sold by Staples, but any similar product should work well enough. Damien Hirst got the same idea in the 1990s, as her he transcends the original practice, by the use of more spectacular materials, sizes, shapes, and skill improvement. So I tinkered with a few materials and came up with this design that’s easy for older kids to make themselves. The canvas can be anything; however, the most common form of canvas is a small rectangular piece of cardboard.
