About this deal

As of today, author Hayder lives happily along with her live-in partner Bob Randell and her daughter in her house located in Bath, England. After that, she segued into acting, playing a stripper in the British comedy series Minder, and the secretary Miss Belfridge in Are You Being Served? This is the most work I’ve done before filming any job, partly because it’s the best script I’ve ever read and the best part I’ve ever played. I think they're mostly unsettling because they're pretty incompetent and they have a penchant for the theatrical - Honey in particular, but Molina is a bit of a liability. I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years.

I’m particularly excited about young actor Ukweli Roach playing the lead role of Jack Caffery – I guarantee once the series goes out he’ll be a total household name!DI Jack Caffery is once again the maudlin, self-doubting and emotionally intense character we know so well. I thought of what was underneath it all - I thought of the electricty cables, steam, water, fire, subway trains and lava in the city's guts, the subterranean rumbling of trains and earthquakes. Either Hayder, who died in 2021, or Megan Gallagher, who adapted the book for television, has drawn inspiration from Michael Haneke’s infamous 1997 film Funny Games, which covered similar territory.

When I was prepping for Honey, I wanted to make it clear that Molina and Honey are two different characters. The first novel of the series was titled ‘Birdman’ and was published by the Dell Publishing Company in the year 2000.

But to be fair, those of you who follow this series will understand her absence - Jack had to take this portion of his journey alone.Originally titled Tokyo, it was published in America with the name ‘The Devil of Nanking’, one year after it was published in England.
