About this deal

An extensive guide to how you can power your broadband router in the event of a power outage, as well as other tips for keeping things running during a power cut. IF I take a wire from the A&B which is on the inside of the faceplate and take that to an extension point. Does it carry both voice and data.

Latest version that features the filter on the bell wire circuit for IMPROVED ADSL/vDSL performance & WITHOUT 26A surge arrestor which can further IMPROVE ADSL/vDSL speeds! Well, provided that you are keeping the new cable fairly clear of any source of interference, you won’t lose much at all, probably about as much as you would if your house was a few yards down the street, and further away from the exchange. Why Not Cat 5 / Cat 6? Just to eliminate the improbable, I ventured under the floor and re-routed a spare cable I laid in a few years ago, intending to move the master. At my age, crawling around in an 18″ floor void, probably isn’t the best idea, and that’s definitely (probably) the last time I’ll be doing that.Note: Even though the extension wiring is now in the main body of the NTE5c, it will remain unconnected from the phone line until the lower half face-plate is installed. Its not really feesable to trace cables as I don’t fancy pulling up floor boards etc (and being new build there are no “floor boards” per say). My question is: Can I run both the filtered and unfiltered signals through a single cable without loss of performance? If I do need to use two wires, can they run parallel to each other without loss of performance, as long as I avoid going near mains voltage electrics?

You could do either, but I’d be inclined to put them onto the “exchange-side” A and B, that is, on the non-detatchable bit. Then they are out of sight, and out of “harm’s way” I have plenty of unshielded Cat 6 network cable available, which is solid copper and has four twisted pairs. But if you are in the mood to change your old NTE5, then it won’t do any harm. The whole broadband thing constantly amazes me. I’m astounded that it ever works at all. I would suggest getting one. I can even fit it for you (or find someone local who can) if you get in touch! ! In BT terminology, Voice Reinjection is the way to route voice signals from a VoIP service onto the existing home telephone wiring. Now, I want to extend the connection to my data cabinet. I have one Cat6 cable so there are enough cores to connect filtered voice and filtered data signals but I have to land the cable in one outlet (as only one cable) but my question is how and where do I terminate on the data cabinet? I don’t seem to find a normal faceplate with one telephone and one RJ11 /RJ45 outlet. So how do I proceed? Please advise.

Step 4: Identify the type of master socket

For ADSL/vDSL installations the lower half of the front faceplate can be replaced with a filtered faceplate such as the NTE2000, NTE2005, BT/Openreach vDSL Faceplate or VTE2015, this will give the same benefits of the bell wire filter with the addition of centralised ADSL/vDSL filtering. (Note, these are known as Service Specific Faceplates (SSFPs). The BT/Openreach vDSL version retains the original NTE5 lower front faceplate). The master does nothing to affect REN. Additional phones should be fine until you run out of ringing current from the line supply. REN is not such a critical issue as it used to be, as many folks used cordless base stations with their own power supply to power the ring function.

Line dropped again to 2-3 mbps with multiple drops per day – plusnet texted to me say fault detected. Phone still ok. Thanks Rob. I’ve been told the max speed I can get on my line is 19mb down and 1.5mb up. (been told will never get fibre as on EO Line)

Much more further reading on data cabling a house on my blogs. I am currently suffering in bed with covid, so I’m too ill/lazy to send the links. Sorry! Apologies if I am being dense but just trying to buy the correct type of cable in advance of the installation. Gently unclip the 4 plastic clips which retain the inner white plastic part of the VDSL SSFP from the outer shell, and lift the inner part out. Try to pull straight, as the metal pins of the telephone plug are attached to the circuit board and could be damaged if handled roughly Get their tea/coffee preference and specification correct, and buy premium biscuits. Make sure they have room to get at everything. You may get a kindly one who will fit one. On the other hand, they should fit one as a test point to their network anyway. I know you’re probably think just get wireless phones off the new NTE5C/VDSL MK4 but i do like the current phones i have 🙂

The A and B on the front are a filtered ADSL/VDSL signal. Add another filter downstream of these and the signal will disappear. How to switch/migrate broadband supplier and details of the core underlying switching processes that are used.) Assumptions in situations like this can often be wrong! Cablers route the cables to their convenience! TIA. (I’m hoping to stay clear of wireless, ie: have the router upstairs and connect to the tv & pc downstairs wirelessly, as its a solid built old house). If your telephone does require a ring capacitor, use a decent microfilter that contains the ring capacitor.No. The “A” and “B” refer to the 568A and 568B protocols of cable termination for these modules. There is a difference in where the oranges and greens go under each protocol. This is abbreviated to “A” and “B” on the module pins labelling.
