Anthologion Prayer Book Published by Saint Ignatius Orthodox

An essential part of our life as an Orthodox Christian is communication with God. He speaks to us through the Church, the Holy Tradition and the Holy Scriptures, while we speak to Him through prayer. With the advent of printing, prayer books became accessible to the average laymen and have been an important aspect of Orthodox piety ever since.

PRAYERS IN PREPARATION FOR HOLY COMMUNION

St. Tikhon's Orthodox Prayer book (Slavonic/English Edition): This prayer book, sometimes called the "SVIT prayer book" after its original publisher, is a bilingual edition comparable to the Jordanville Prayer Book, except it uses an obsolete English translation from the first edition produced in 1959. Orthodox Daily Prayers is published by St Tikhon Seminary Press. In many ways, this volume is a compromise between the Jordanville and Holy Transfiguration Monastery approaches to prayer books. The collection of morning and evening prayers are those found in the Jordanville and Publicans prayer books. Yet here we also find Little Compline and the Three Canons as well as Communion. Be mindful, O Lord, of me, thy humble servant; grant me thy grace, that I may be diligent and faithful; that I may avoid evil company and influence, and resist all temptation; that I may lead a godly and righteous life, blameless and peaceful, ever serving thee, that I may be accounted worthy at the last to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. O Lord Jesus Christ our God, who in thy mercy and loving-kindness dost regard the prayers of all who call upon thee with their whole heart, incline thine ear and hear my prayer, now humbly offered unto thee: As I rise from sleep, I thank Thee, O Holy Trinity, for through Thy great goodness and patience Thouwastnot angry with me, an idler and sinner, nor hast Thou destroyed me with mine iniquities, but hast shown Thy usual love for mankind; and when I was prostrate in despair, Thou hast raised me up to keep the morning watch and glorify Thy power. And now enlighten my mind’s eye, and open my mouth that I may meditate on Thy words, and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and hymn Thee in heartfelt confession, and sing praises to Thine all-holy name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

INTRODUCTION

In memory of GREGORY (TAVLARIDES) TAYLOR, the greatest benefactor of Orthodox Christian theological education in the New World. Preface We thank thee, O Christ our God, that thou hast satisfied us with thy earthly gifts, deprive us not of thy Heavenly Kingdom; but as thou entered into the midst of thy disciples, O Saviour, and gave them peace, enter also among us and save us. Amen.

Orthodox Christians - Greek The Synekdemos: Daily Prayers for Orthodox Christians - Greek

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on the God-preserved Russian Land and her Orthodox people both in the homeland and in the diaspora, and this God-preserved land and its authorities. Bow. Having risen from sleep, I offer unto Thee, OSaviour, the midnight hymn, and falling down I cry unto Thee: Grant me not to fall asleep in the death of sin, but have compassion on me, O Thou Whowastvoluntarily crucified, and hasten to raise me who am reclining in idleness, and save me in prayer and intercession; and after the night’s sleep shine upon me a sinless day, O Christ God, and save me. Suddenly the judge shall come, and the deeds of each shall be laid bare; but with fear do we cry at midnight: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O God; through theTheotokos, have mercy on us.

Rabbi Richard N. Levy’s On Wings of Light: The Hillel Siddur for Kabbalat Shabbat and Shabbat Evening features virtuoso translations of the standard prayers, translations that function more as riffs on the classic liturgy than straight renditions. It is especially good for a “learner’s minyan” or someone in search of a siddur to read while a congregation recites a standard liturgy that does not energize his/her prayer experience. Heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who are present everywhere filling all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us. Cleanse us of every stain, and save our souls, gracious Lord. The Reconstructionist movement‘s prayerbooks for weekdays, Shabbat and holidays form a matched set under one title, Kol Haneshamah (“every creature” or “all that breathes,” from the last verse of Psalms). These siddurim showcase the Reconstructionist movement’s innovative approach to liturgy–traditionalist in form, but radical in ideology. Far more is rewritten than in the Conservative siddur, though a full Hebrew text is given for every standard prayer. These siddurim are rather bulky. Blessed is God, who is merciful unto us and nourisheth us from His bounteous gifts by His Grace and compassion, always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for at a loss for any defence, this prayer do we sinners offer Thee as Master; have mercy on us.
