About this deal

It's such a fun, cheeky, easy read. It's quirky, cosy and entertaining. It even had some relatively dark and emotional parts that were heavier than I'd anticipated in this book - but overall it was delightful. I loved the descriptions of foods and scents, even in candles! This book made my tummy rumble and really had me wanting to pour a glass of wine to enjoy the chapters with but I'm not currently drinking at all so I had to settle for hot ribena and lime & sodas haha. I absolutely loved this second book from Tracy Whitwell and think the writing is better if possible!! Totally enjoyed and will be recommending far and wide! I really enjoyed this book and found the characters to be brilliant. Tanz is hysterical and I think everyone will find her entertaining and want to read more about her, I know I do! There are some emotional bits in the story and some creepy bits but most of all it's fun and you won’t want to put it down. Now Tracy lives in north London, is working on screenplays and making her own short films and has written more novels, which will be coming out soon and she hopes you all will buy in bulk. (And enjoy, of course.)

Insufferable Characters, especially the main character, which are mostly unnecessary. 50% of the characters could have been left out. I enjoyed this book as it took my down memory lane to my years in the North East and Newcastle. It was also in Tyneside that I went with a friend to see my first clairvoyant - an interesting experience. The unnecessary and way too casual talk about unhealthy eating habits and how the main character is kind of fatphobic alot.Newcastle’s dead refuse to stay quiet for long and pretty soon Tanz finds herself haunted by visions of an enigmatic Gin Palace guarded by a mysteriously sinister figure. What could possibly be the meaning of this? Could this be some kind of premonition that could help stop a terrible future tragedy? Tanz is determined to find out – even if it means having to do battle with a poltergeist determined to keep his secrets his own! Mandasue Heller, author of Running Scared on The Accidental Medium I loved The Accidental Medium. A hilarious journey into a ghostly world of psychics and the like that’s guaranteed to put you in high spirits. I’m no clairvoyant but, trust me, this medium is about to go large!

I still adored Tanz, the books central character - she is so real and so relatable - flaws and all! She encounters a young dead boy after taking on an acting role in her old stomping ground of Newcastle Under Tyne and a malevolent spirit that wants to do her and her friends harm. But Tanz isn't having any of it and, as a result, becomes entangled in the world of those who have lingered and have a message to share. Along the way, Tanz becomes friends with Gladys, a healer - a wonderful character I'd love to meet, and she also seems to be the only one able to get through to Caroline, one of Tanz's acting colleagues and a real prima-donna that nobody else knows how to deal with. As well as lots of Tanz-style laughs, there are some tender moments in this book, including taking Caroline for chips and the part where Tanz shares a message with Gladys which had me in tears. It's always refreshing to read a book that makes you laugh and one in which you wish you could grab a glass of wine with the main character and hear all about their exploits. The Accidental Medium is exactly that book. This was an easy book to read and finished it one setting. The was lots of humour especially when the author describes life on a television set and quirks of the north-east. She does capture life in Newcastle accurately in her writing. The secondary characters are interesting and quirky in their own way and generally push the story. I did enjoy reading the book but I would have liked a bit more to the story and a little more action. Cue a job and a change of scenery with a host of new quirky characters, Tanz starts flexing some spiritual muscle and encounters a malevolent spirit that may just be her undoing.

Caroline Smailes on The Accidental Medium Spooky and hilarious and brimming with oddball characters, I love this book! Whilst I binged the first book, I found this one harder to get into and I didn't realise how much I had forgotten from the first book until it was mentioned in the second one but with little context to jog my memory as I read the first one months ago. Gin Palace” is the second in the ‘The Accidental Medium’ trilogy books by Tracy Whitwell and works just as easily as a stand-alone or as a follow up. Any references to a previous event that occurred is covered enough for the reader to follow unheeded and the crossover into this book worked really well. It was genuinely easy to endear to Tanz and her friends, Milo and Sheila and her new acquaintance Gladys and I felt I made life long friends with them all too. This story grabbed me immediately, it didn't take me an blink to get attached to the protagonist and immerse myself in the story that she had to buy.Thuli Madonsela speaks about the importance of SA's political future in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
