About this deal

As with any recipe with a short ingredient list the quality of the ingredients matter the most. This limoncello recipe uses only the outer peel (yellow skin only not the white pith) of the lemon so it’s best to use organic lemons that haven’t been treated with pesticides. The white pith is bitter and will impart a bitter taste to the final product so its best to use just the outer skin. In addition to limoncello, the shop also sells honey, marmalade, pastries, and natural cosmetics made with lemons. The shop is impossible to miss with lemon products literally spilling out onto the cobblestones alongside the staircase leading to Amalfi’s cathedral façade. Given that limoncello is very sweet it is almost always served very chilled. If drunk when warm, it tends to be a little too sweet and quite cloying. It’s likely that many people were taking lemons and infusing them in some kind of liquor as a way of preserving the fruit, and those limoncello recipes were passed down through generations. Limoncello is a traditional recipe from the south of Italy where lemons trees find their natural habitat. The authentic Italian name is Limoncello.

Here’s a really useful tool to help you with that – Limoncello Alcohol Percentage Calculator. Simply type in the liquor quantity in milliliters, its proof divided by 2 and desired limoncello strength.

What Next?

Besides enjoying Limoncello as a digestive drink you can also make a delicious Limoncello Cake. Super soft and flavorful it’s like a rum cake, but much better 😉

Meyer lemons are a great choice due to their highly aromatic nature, which comes from the oils in the skin and will infuse into the alcohol during their infusion. The skins of Meyer lemons are very thin, however, and can be cumbersome to peel. Limoncello is best served ice cold in small chilled glasses. Because it’s made using high proof liquor you can store it in the freezer and it won’t freeze solid. However, it may also be kept in the fridge instead. Yet, some families will claim that once the frost no longer covers the limoncello, it has become too warm to drink.HOW LONG TO INFUSE: at least 8 days, best 3 weeks (if you’re using high proof alcohol like Everclear). With lower proof alcohol, like vodka it’s best to infuse for 1 month or more. In most cases, limoncello is served in a shot glass or a small stemmed glass to avoid it from getting warm.
