About this deal

Exterior wooden surfaces in particular can retain moisture for up to 48 hours after rainfall or preparation. Ensure the items are thoroughly dry prior to painting.

Let’s not forget the all-important colour. Think carefully about the impression you want to create. Here are some factors to consider: Reseal tin after use. Clean up any spills immediately with water. Wash brushes/rollers in warm, soapy water. Use masking tape to cover any fittings on or surrounding the door that you don’t want to get paint on. It is also worth covering any glass panels with cardboard or polythene. I went to our local decorator centre and asked for advice. The recommended Zinsser All Coat Exterior Satin paint with built in primer and gave me an exciting colour chart for me to choose from. They mixed it to my chosen candyfloss pink and I am delighted with the colour. Dusky Blush, χρησιμοποιώντας είτε πινέλο, είτε ρολό, είτε πιστόλι βαφής. Προτείνουμε, η πρώτη στρώση να είναι πολύ λεπτή και αραιή.

Porous, or ‘thirsty’ surfaces like bare wood or MDF, tend to absorb paint meaning additional coats are likely to be required to achieve a durable finish. In this case, your 750ml tin will provide less than 6m2 of full coverage. If you apply the paint too thinly, durability may be affected. For new plaster, industry standard advice is to apply an initial mist coat - in which case you can thin Frenchic wall paint with tap water up to a maximum of 10%. Put down little dishes of bicarbonate of soda to help absorb the paint smell. A few halved onions also do the same. I did both and I think it really helped the smell to go. Curing (hardening) time is up to 3 weeks in normal conditions. Treat gently until curing is complete

For ferrous metal, treat rust, remove any loose or flaking coatings and sand smooth - in these circumstances, we recommend 2 coats of Frenchic Finishing Coat as a base for the paint. Porous, or ‘thirsty’, surfaces like bare wood or MDF, tend to absorb paint meaning additional coats are likely to be required to achieve a durable finish. In this case, your 500ml tin will provide less than 3.5m 2 of full coverage. If you apply the paint too thinly, durability may be affected. Fail to prepare? Prepare to fail. Preparing the surface of your door is just as important as the painting stage itself. With proper preparation, you’ll find it easier to get a smooth, long-lasting finish.

An Introduction To Frenchic’s Trim Paint Range

Avoid painting in direct sunlight, only when the air and surface temperatures are between 10oC and 32oC and humidity is less than 85%. Do not apply if, in the following 48 hours, there is likelihood of rain, frost, fog, condensation or if the temperature is likely to drop lower than 10oC

My first piece of advice for anyone considering painting their uPVC door is to choose your paint wisely. I sadly did not choose the best paint, so I want you to benefit from my mistakes! I recommend Frenchic Al Fresco Paint which you can find here. Below you’ll find the one I used for this door that was a total pain, but did work well! The Paint I Don’t Recommend To Paint Your Front Door Breathable, chalk and mineral paint formulated for walls. Also suitable for internal woodwork, powder coated radiators, wall tiles (we recommend avoiding very wet areas like shower/bath surrounds). Here is some useful information about painting tiles. Also wood, concrete and most laminate floors with correct application – please note maintenance may be required in these situations. Now it’s time to get painting! You might like to watch our video guide to painting UPVC doors as the painting process is the same. Rust will need treatment, whilst any algae, mould or moss should be removed. These can generally be removed with outdoor cleaning solutions. Most importantly, always wear protective gear, including a mask and rubber gloves, when cleaning mould. What do I need to paint a wooden door? Also suitable for interior wood, concrete and most laminate floors with correct application – please note that maintenance may be required in these situations.Large, flat surfaces can be a challenge to paint evenly. Whether you are using brushes, a roller or a sprayer, it’s good idea to have practised your technique beforehand to ensure that you’re confident when working on your front door.

I used the Dusky Blush Al Fresco paint on our kitchen door and it was a dream to paint with and gives a gorgeous matte, smooth finish. You just need to clean the door with sugar soap, lightly sand, wipe off the dust and paint. Be careful with it for a few weeks as it hardens up or ‘cures’. If your door is exposed to the elements, and not enclosed in a porch, then you will need a suitable durable and weatherproof paint. For ease of application and speed, a self-priming paint is perfect. Many paints require a primer, which means buying extra products as well as adding time to the project. Self-priming paints – like the entire Frenchic range – cuts out that hassle and expense. What about colour? Ensure surfaces are in suitable condition for painting and clean, dry, free from wax, grease of penetrating substances and in sound condition. If previously painted, remove loose or flaking paint. Fill any holes/imperfections with a suitable filler. If you’re not using a self-priming paint, you’ll need to prime the door. This can add extra time to the process. Apply primer across the whole door – and don’t forget the sides. If you’ve used our self-priming Al Fresco paint, there’s no need to worry about this stage. Curing time is up to 2-3 weeks in normal conditions. Treat the newly painted surface with care until then. Choosing the right date and time to paint is also important because it impacts how well your paint will apply and cure (harden). Don’t paint outdoors if, for the next 48 hours, one of the following applies: I did consider naming this blog post ‘How NOT To Paint a uPVC Front Door’ as my social media community will know how much of a nightmare it was.
