About this deal

Walk the Fife Coastal Path: This long-distance (116-mile) footpath offers stunning views of the coastline, historic landmarks, and wildlife. Suitable for all fitness levels, choose a section that suits you and enjoy the beauty of the East Neuk either on foot or on a bike. Crail is the oldest Royal Burgh in the East Neuk, having been granted permission by Robert the Bruce to hold a weekly Sunday market in the 12 th century. Crail Museum & Heritage Centre is a small and friendly wee attraction which sits next to the Tolbooth, on the corner of Crail Marketgate, once the largest marketplace in Europe. The museum tells the story of Crail through the centuries, from fishing and the war history of Crail Airfield, to the Mural Monuments in Crail Kirkyard. Visit the museum when you arrive into Crail, then take a walk to discover the places you’ve just learned about. Long ago, grain was produced and stored in Kingsbarns before being transported to the Royal Court at Falkland Palace. The coast has a rich heritage, steeped in tales of fishing traditions, bustling Royal Burghs, and even witch trials. If you’re looking for seaside adventures, there are stunning beaches, tidal swimming pools, water sports and a long distance walking trail on the coast. Amazing food is never far from reach around these parts with quality, local produce found in abundance in the farm shops, eateries and markets. The East Neuk most definitely lives up to its reputation as a foodie destination. This inlet of the Firth of Forth stretches for around 27km, incorporating harbour villages from Pittenweemto lesser-known Kingsbarns, as well as countless beaches, sea views, historical ruins, and walks along the gorgeous Fife coastline.

St Monans | Another small but perfectly formed Fife gem, pretty St Monans is an easy 5-minute drive from Pittenweem. Or, if you have time, a 30-minute wander along one of the best sections of the Fife coastal path. Once there, visit the welly boot garden, Giddy Gannet Café, and intricate harbour. The last destination in the East Neuk of Fife is Kingsbarns which lies 5 miles around the coast and past the Kilminning Coast Nature Reserve. If you're planning a visit this summer or beyond, here are our - and our friends at the Good Food Guide - recommendations of the best places to visit for a delicious bite to eat. Harbour Café Picture: Harbour Cafe To the west of St Monans, and on the Fife Coastal Path, the ruins of once-grand Newark Castle dominate the clifftop. Further along the path, The Old Kirk of St Monans is on the very edge of the beach, with only an ancient wall protecting the medieval church from the sea.Focusing on the people of Fife and their daily lives, the museum displays a number of interesting items including personal belongings, furniture, medicine, groceries, and agricultural tools. You’ll even find jougs (a metal collar with a chain) still attached to the wall of the tolbooth and ‘Weight House’ building, where people were publicly punished for petty crimes. Not only pretty, but there’s also heaps to do in Elie. With miles of Fife coastline to explore, fantastic beaches, watersports, and excellent eateries, plus places like Pittenweem and Crailnearby, Elie is a perfect summer spot. They wrote: "The eponymous Craig Millar @ 16 West End has a claim to the best views of any restaurant in Fife, thanks to a terrace that spills out over the Firth of Forth and the seas beyond. Neuk" is the Scots word for nook or corner, and the East Neuk is generally accepted to comprise the fishing villages of the most northerly part of the Firth of Forth and the land and villages slightly inland. It would include Elie and Earlsferry, Colinsburgh, St Monans, Pittenweem, Arncroach, Carnbee, Anstruther, Cellardyke, Kilrenny, and the immediate hinterland, as far as the upland area known as the Riggin o Fife. [1] St Monans is another gem in the East Neuk of Fife. Traditional fisherman cottages with painted walls and red roofs overlook the three-piered harbour.

This restaurant opened in 2022, and owners, Nicholas Frost and Damon Reynolds spent 30 intense months refurbishing this 19th century Crail building on High Street North. The Good Food Guide also lists Craig Millar @ 16 West End as a place to visit for a meal when you're in St Monans. Isle of May Boat Trips: A great way to see the Isle of May and its flora and fauna is by taking a boat trip with osprey, a big ten metre Humber Rib which can hold up to 12 passengers. Osprey can take you on a 2-3 hour trip around the island or a shorter voyage around the island to see the puffins, seals, sea cliffs and coastal views from the boat. Find out More Let’s start with what is probably the most well-known of the East Neuk fishing villages. The first thing I noticed when we arrived in Anstruther was the buzz. It was a gorgeous day and there were people everywhere; perched on benches at the harbour, wandering along the cute shops on the main high street, and sprawled on the golden sands of the beach. After driving through so many sleepy villages on the way this was a welcome relief! St Andrews is deemed the home of golf in Scotland and many truly legendary players have played and won championships here. To the north of St Monans lies a tidal pool that was built in Victorian times which allows swimmers to effectively swim in the ocean while being protected from the waves. It’s currently undergoing restoration and is planned to be developed into a bigger attraction in the near future. Cellardyke basically joins Anstruther to the east but there isn’t much there to be honest. It does have a tidal pool though, as well as a couple of sand beaches. Things to do in Anstruther & Cellardyke

After exploring the villages of the East Neuk of Fife, visitors can strap their boots on and go for a walk along the region’s second big attraction – the Fife Coastal Path. Moreover, in Pittenweem, there is an outdoor crazy golf course with the added attraction of a neighbouring putting green. You can get a direct bus to Anstruther from Edinburgh, which is great news! However, it’s also worth noting that if you don’t catch the direct bus you may have to change buses twice – which, if you’re anything like me, you probably don’t want to do. The direct bus takes two hours 25 minutes and it’s the X60 bus headed towards St Andrews. By car At Kingsbarns, you can play golf at one of the world’s best golf courses. Since 1793 golf has been played at Kingsbarns. There’s a car park for the beach that’s accessed from the A917 (the turning is immediately after the Kingsbarns sign at the village entrance), but as a top-tip, instead of sitting on Kingsbarn beach, head north for half a mile to Red Beach which is a real hidden gem as it’s considerably quieter. Things to Do in Kingsbarns If you don't want to wait for your fish and chips, the Good Food Guide mentioned this neighbouring chippy in Anstruther. Looking at a map of East Fife, St Andrews appears to be the region’s heart. Roads run like arteries from it into the countryside. Each one sends golfers in different directions to explore the myriad of courses Fife has to offer. Head down the A91 through Cupar and you’ll reach Ladybank. After lunch, climb up the harbour wall, and while away the afternoon in the sunshine. If you fancy a drink after lunch, the Golf Hotel on the high street is friendly and quaint. Have fish & chips at ANSTRUTHER It might be a bit of a challenge to get here – the closest train stations are Cupar or St Andrews or it’s a long and winding road from the Forth Bridges – but it is well worth the effort. Don’t just zoom up to St Andrews or you will miss out on arguably the best fish & chips, boat trips and beaches that Scotland has to offer.
