About this deal

The size of the EcoCool is 52 x 32 x 43 cm and it weighs around 8kg which is fairly substantial. There is a great swing handle for lifting the box and it does not struggle with a fully laden fridge. If you're into trekking, want something for the odd picnic, or to keep your lunch cool for work A cooler bag may be the way to go.

I recently used the Klarstein BeerBelly 29 Electric Cool Box during a weekend camping trip and found its cooling and warming functions to be incredibly helpful. The dual functionality allowed me to enjoy chilled drinks while keeping my hot food warm during our outdoor gathering. Among the four products, the Mobicool MV30 stands out as an excellent choice due to its impressive features. Firstly, it offers a generous capacity of 29 litres, providing ample space for six upright 1.5-litre bottles. Additionally, its cooling performance is noteworthy, capable of cooling up to 18°C below the ambient temperature, thanks to the double fan system. One of the main issues is not always how your cool box will be powered, it is the capacity. How much food can you store in a cool box? Our buyers’ guide explains the capacity and how much food and drinks you can place in each size. Also, detailing the four different types of cool boxes available and if they are suitable for everyday family camping.Compared with the Mobicool MV30, the Dometic BordBar TB 15 offers a compact and portable solution with its 15-litre capacity. While it has a smaller capacity than the MV30, the Dometic BordBar TB 15 compensates with its ability to cool up to 20°C below the ambient temperature and even heat up to +65°C. This versatile functionality makes it suitable for a wider range of applications.

The EcoCool offers two cooling modes with a cooling delta of up to 25°C below the outdoors temperature on the MAX setting operation. This means that even on a scorching day, you can still get temperatures close to freezing. The most common used cool box in the UK is thermoelectrical due to the low outside ambient temperatures and cost. Do thermoelectric cool boxes keep food frozen? It has a hot/cold, eco and max setting. The switches are at the top of the lid under the round cover, where the power cables are concealed. However, if running from a car battery, it will drain it on average in under 8 hours.Powering the Oypla cool box is never an issue, as it can be used with both mains power and a 12V DC vehicle cigarette lighter, making it ideal for car trips or camping adventures. However, I found that the power cord does come loose quite easily, so it may need frequent re-attaching, especially when moving around. Most importantly, Waeco is now part of the Dometic cool boxes brand, so the same quality standards are applied to these ultra-portable solutions as they are to Dometic cool boxes. Ideal for a family of 4 plus, as there is plenty of room for dividing drinks and food. If the cool box is not connected to power, it will remain cool for several hours, which is excellent if you cannot charge it whilst travelling. It has a speedy cooling system when first plugged in, so it is unnecessary to start cooling the night before. What is the best thermostatic cool box suitable for a family or large group camping trip and ideal for a week’s holiday?

As food defrosts, condensation and water will gather in the base, ruining food. So you must remove access water as there is no drainage plug. Build quality and materials are surprisingly excellent for the price you are paying – it oozes class and excellence. In particular the matte glass door on the front closes snugly and looks fantastic. The Oypla 30L Electric Cool and Hot Picnic Box is a handy companion for outdoor excursions like picnics, festivals, or road trips. As someone who has experienced the convenience of having cold drinks and warm food on the go, I can vouch for its performance. So whether you're chilling beer and wine, keeping those BBQ prawns at a safe temperature, or simply stopping your milk from curdling, then Dometic and Waeco coolboxes are an ideal solution. The ECO Deep Extreme has several different capacity options in the range. The coolers start at a ‘car-friendly’ 26 litre capacity up to our favourite in the range shown above – the 45 litre giant which has its own carry handle and wheels to help move it around. We’ll concentrate on that one for this review.

Waeco caravan cool boxes - simple and sturdy

In our opinion, no electric cooler combines greater simplicity, affordability, and efficiency than the Outdoor Revolution Eco Deep Extreme. This is a full-on compressor-based fridge which also has a separate freezer section which can keep ice cream frozen! Yes it’s an expensive cool box, but really delivers the goods in our view. The Waeco Mobicool U48 Thermoelectric Coolboxis one step up, has a similar cooling technology to the Waeco Mobicool U26-12 Thermoelectric Coolbox but offers even more storage space. As with other Waeco caravan coolboxes, the priceis unbelievable - making it a cheap and versatile cooling solution. Multi-compartment, spacious, extremely efficient, they will ensure that food and drinks are kept at a perfect temperature - regardless of what the unpredictable British weather is doing.

The Vango is expensive, but it is worth the higher price for the additional extras. The lid has indents for holding 2L drink bottles in place. The base has 3 circular sections that support the bottom of a bottle providing extra height. However, not all fizzy drink bottles will fit into the circular sections. We were impressed that it can also heat the contents up to ~65°C. Obviously this isn’t hot enough to actually cook food, but it means you can keep your fish and chips warm if you’re busy – watch out for bacteria though – the heating should just be for short blasts after you’ve actually cooked the food. Think of it as maintaining temperature rather than reheating.

Like most thermoelectrical cool boxes, there is no built-in area to store your mains or car charger connection. You must keep safe during transport and your trip when not in use. One of the features I appreciate is its dual power options, allowing me to power it by a vehicle’s cigarette lighter or an indoor house plug. This flexibility is beneficial when you need to switch power sources or if you wish to use it both outdoors and indoors. It has both power supply leads—one for easily charging in a cigarette lighter and stored for transport in the rear passenger footwell. The inside power lead is about 1m long, so you need to plan where your electrical mains adaptor is in your tent.
