About this deal

I loved how the author was able to weave everyone's story together to resolve the story. The only complaints I have are that I wish that more detail was given on Pete Hoffman and his relationship to Glory's family. I also wish there was more information on the Bone girl who survived the fire. I think I made the best choice for my Halloween week by reading this epic, fantastic journey, with the sweet touch of Welsh folklore and urban tales introduces a rough, strong, invincible, brave heroine Aderyn (let’s call him Ryn), the gravedigger! Characters were amazing, each so well written and described I could visualise them with ease. Storyline flowed flawlessly keeping me gripped with each sentence'

He saw her eyes focused on the palm trees over his shoulder, and he flinched. He turned, expecting to see someone watching the two of them together. He knew it would be the same as last year if they were discovered. Suspicions. Accusations. You're a predator, they would say. Instinctively, he thought of ways to explain his behavior, to defend himself, even when he'd done nothing wrong.

I'm not sure if I missed it, or if the reason behind the dead crows was washed away, but I'd like to know why they ended up in the lake...., although it was a good creepy beginning. Instead I felt like I was eating ice cream that consisted of ice, hold the cream. The novel was bland, many of the metaphors continually throwing me out of the story. There were some good ideas in here and some characters I enjoyed, hence the 3 stars, but this felt like it could have used one last major rewrite to put this into the "amazing" category rather than the "just another thriller" where it ended up. All in all an above average mystery/thriller book with a touch of horror written by "Caroline Mitchell" that I highly recommend! Ryn and Ellis also find themselves drawn to each other and end up in the woods on a quest to a) learn more about the mountains for a map, b) learn more about Ellis' past, c) try to find out what happened to Ryn's dad, and finally d) to discover the heart of the woods and find a way to stop the bone houses from rising. (It's a complicated quest.)

I suspect the bone-storing area, probably in this format, was in the same vicinity, as far away from the church as possible, within the boundary of the oldest part of the churchyard. There are lots of twist and turns to follow. Information surfaces about the young girl ... leading to a crime that was committed 10 years earlier.

Search and Book

Peter Hoffman - the sheriff's best friend, local man who is indebted to Glory's mom for keeping his granddaughter safe the night the fire killed her mother and brothers. This book contains a mystery shrouded in mystery. You're left with a number of suspects in Glory's death :

It builds on stablished mythology skilfully woven by Caroline, whilst adding in new elements from those who come into Slayton's environs-even the deeply Southern Elsie, close friend to protagonist Sarah Noble, who appears to all and intents of purpose not to belong there, has an origin story which binds her to this bizarre little town. Allegedly, due a decades-old curse, the dead in Colbren can reanimate themselves and begin to walk again amongst the living. These walking dead are known as bone houses. I loved every second... so many twists and turns... It is one of those "just one more chapter" type books that end up keeping you up all night,' Reader Reviewer 5 stars You know it? Oh, yeah, duh, English teacher." She looked at him like a broken toy. "I mean, you used to be. Tresa felt bad about what happened." She saw you and Hilary in the auditorium. That's why she choked. She was really upset. She couldn't concentrate knowing you were there."

Historical Background

Yeah. I know." Glory didn't look distressed by Tresa's failure. Her face had a drunken brightness to it, as if she were drowning her sorrows. "Hey, I read a poem once that said the world would end in fire." My biggest problem lies with the pacing, which is rather slow, and the plot, which I hate to say is predictable. So many things happening, but very little that actually moves the plot forward. Like, I wanted more excitement than just our characters fighting off Bone Houses every now and then. :( During the few years around 1860 the church underwent a radical rebuild, including taking down a portion of the south wall, perhaps the area surrounding the old ‘bone house’ structure. When hundreds of birds fall from the sky into Slayton's lake in a terrifying freak event, the waters are dredged - revealing a dark, long-held secret. Uno de mis primeros descubrimientos ha sido encontrarme con Brian Freeman, autor estadounidense que escribe novelas policiacas. Ya Me he tronado la serie completa que tiene, "Jonathan Stride", le tengo gran cariño a esa serie, stride y serena dial son de mis favoritos en cuanto a personajes detectives policiales se refieren. Oh, y cómo olvidarme de Maggie... pero bueno, ése no es el punto.

Gary Jensen- Dance coach at Green Bay University, seen conversing with Glory the night of her death by Amy Leigh, a former dance student of Hilary Bradley, referred to as a "creep" by former coworkers All of Brian's books are also available in audiobook editions. His novels THE BONE HOUSE and SEASON OF FEAR were both finalists for Best Audiobook of the Year in Thriller/Suspense. When Sarah Noble investigates, with the help of forensic anthropologist Sarah and a boy called Elliot. What will they discover, and will Sarah survive after putting herself in danger? The case of the baby found in the lake is a complex and haunting one. Following the discovery, a young woman who Sarah knows, Cora, hands herself into the police. Sarah is really drawn into Cora’s story, and it is so intriguing, as well as heart-breaking. Even though Cora has done something terrible, I found myself really caring for her. You can see that she has been through a lot in her life, so I really wanted to find out what was going to happen to her, and Caroline Mitchell certainly has a few twists up her sleeve. The premise of this story revolves around a murder mystery with a cast of characters that include a husband and wife who happened to be at the location where the murder took place. Add to it the fact that the husband lost his job because of a scandal with that girl's sister at school (he's a teacher) and you've got your prime suspect for the story.
