The faerie market also makes references to amongst other things My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Rupert Bear, and a possible future Sir Timothy Hunter, which can be seen directly to the right of Tim Hunter when he first arrives at the market. Another version of Tim showed up in the main DCU during the New 52 in a Justice League Dark storyline. Everyone and everything he meets wants to use Tim for their own purposes or kill him (except, obviously, Death herself), including demons, fairies, and angels. Tim's friends and family are targeted by supernatural forces beyond imagining in attempts to get Tim to agree to a Magically-Binding Contract to own his soul and power. And everything gets really, really weird.

The concept was later expanded upon by other Vertigo authors, first in a 75-issue series by John Ney Rieber and Peter Gross, and later in a series that became part of The Sandman Universe. The entire point of these trips were to show Tim the price of magic and to, hopefully, have him choose the side of Light instead of Darkness. A magical romp through magical realms this story shines when the realms of magic are explained by the four famous characters. The artwork is superb throughout and truly helps to craft the image. This book is so well done that even the lettering is subtly different depending on the scene. The story? Utterly magnificent! Perhaps my favorite parts were the Constantine trip and the Dr. Occult trip. I shall not spoil any more of this truly amazing work. The fact that Tim can choose to believe in magic, or not, and that it always has a steep price is the central message. The viewpoints of the characters is also a pleasure, though my favorite is John Constantine. There is a scene in a mage bar called "Bewitched" that is classic JC..and yes JC is a badass. Death of a Child: Any child or infant that shows up in Life During Wartime will die a gruesome death. Laser-Guided Amnesia: In Life During Wartime, Tim has imposed this on himself in his created world. It doesn't last. The faerie market in Gaiman's novel Stardust has many similarities to the one presented in the original miniseries. This may not be surprising as it's simply a case of Gaiman borrowing a portion of one work to use in the other.Timothy Hunter is playing alone in the street when he's approached by four men who ask him a simple question: "Do you believe in magic?" Obviously he says no, but after a brief demonstration of it, he reluctantly agrees to be taught in the ways of magic. In Book 1: The Invisible Labyrinth, Tim takes a trip into the magical past with the Phantom Stranger and learns the history of magic(at least how it relates to the Vertigo universe) . There were also three spin-off mini-series set in the Faerie realm, entitled The Books of Faerie. The first two volumes dealt with the rise to power of Titania and Auberon respectively, whilst the third documents the misadventures of Molly O'Reilly as she tried to come to terms with the curse placed upon her by Titania during the Girl in the Box storyline. There were also plans to create an ongoing The Books of Faerie series starring Molly O'Reilly, but these were eventually abandoned.

The Books of Magic was a four-issue limited series by Neil Gaiman which explored the DC universe through the eyes of a young boy named Timothy Hunter. Characters from The Sandman, including The Endless, are featured prominently in the second half of the story. In the last issue of the ongoing (second) The Books of Magic series, writer/artist Peter Gross played on the similarity to Potter, showing Tim's step brother Cyril putting on a glamor stone that made him look like Timothy. Cyril then walked through the wall between platforms 9 and 10 at a train station. Changeling Fantasy: Tim is apparently the illegitimate son of Queen Titania and her human falconer Tamlin , raised by mortal parents. At least at first. Then Auberon says that Tim has no faerie blood and it seems he's the illegitimate son of Tamlin and Mary Hunter, and the changeling son of Titania and Tamlin is his half-brother whose fate is unknown. But it's never completely certain. A third possibility raised is that Mary Hunter was a faerie nursemaid under a glamour who smuggled Tim out of Faerie at Titania's request to hide the fact that Her Majesty was a human sorceress under a glamour and the baby, having been fathered by Tamlin, was fully human. Barbatos drags the children and the dragon Sir Timothy into another layer of Hell, where he attempts to salvage victory from defeat by trapping the two children in a fairy tale world where brave knights kill dragons.
