Shatterpoint features an evolving narrative where players help Karluq gather Quantus energy to try and stabilize the universe and prevent the endless cycle of collapse and reset. Players can choose from five unique heroes and conquer through skirmishes and campaigns in five different worlds. Recover – this lets you heal 1 point of damage or remove a Condition from yourself or a nearby allied unit. The game features loot in the form of runes, cosmetics, weapons, and armor that can be found in lootable chests. In each season of content, player progress will be reset by The Shattering.
When a model’s health pool is exhausted, they’re laid down and effectively taken off the battlefield. They can’t contest objectives, take any more damage, trigger abilities, and so on. The next time they would activate they stand up, clear their damage, and take a full activation before gaining a Wound token. At this point if their Wound tokens equal their Durability stat they’re removed. The game also features releases from the original trilogy, such as Leia, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, but it does have a unique focus on the animated side of the Star Wars Universe. The Star Wars: Shatterpoint game empowers players to alter the fate of the galaxy, from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. Players build and command a strike team composed of iconic Star Wars characters and pit them against each other in exciting battles. I’ve had Anakin Skywalker batter Darth Maul the length of a walkway, then vault off and onto an objective held bya swarm of battle droids; seen Darth Maul rip Captain Rex off a gantry with the force to shove a Lightsaber down his throat; sent Mandalorians jetboosting out of combat to grab objectives; had B6 battle droids shoot into Anakin Skywalker, only to suffer more damage than they inflicted as he deflected their shots. It isn’t just these, however. An early expansion includes Magnaguard which also have the Battle Droid keyword giving Kalani even more flexibility and expanding the overlapping aura of benefits. Again in the core set you can pair the Light Side Bo Katan with Dark Side Gar Saxon and all the Mandalorian Support Units to find yourself tossing buffs and out-of-sequence movement all over the place. Combat CrunchStar Wars is all about balance, about the push and pull of light and dark. So is Shatterpoint. Matches are divided into Struggles; winning a game of Shatterpoint means winning 2 out of 3 Struggles. Rather than scoring points Struggles are won through an objective focused game of tug of war.
But wait – why are we talking about Marvel Crisis Protocol when this was supposed to be about Shatterpoint? Well, Star Wars: Shatterpoint is being made by the very same team that gave us Marvel Crisis Protocol, and so far, it looks like it’ll feature the same level of accessibility combined with a serious deep dive into its setting that everyone loved about Marvel Crisis Protocol. But fate has a big roll to play in Shatterpoint: by nesting some of your abilities inside combat resolution, you’re presented with fresh choices even after you’ve committed to your character’s action for the turn. While the mission is abstract – effectively a zone control scenario from your choice of online shooter – the stuff that happens during the game is is dripping in Star Wars theme. The game isn’t the first Star Wars miniature game at all – Atomic Mass Games already publishes the army scale wargame Star Wars: Legion and the two space battle games Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada – but the relatively large scale of the miniatures in Shatterpoint and the game’s focus on creating cinematic moments for your characters makes it perfect for imagining you’re controlling the most famous characters of your favorite setting. Shove: This lets you Push the target away from you for Range 1 distance (the short side of measuring tools) and then move the same distance in the target’s direction. This is quite a big deal, as some combat trees have several of these icons listed, so you could end up significantly changing the positioning of both yourself and the target. For example, this could help you push the target out of Engagement Range of one of your more important or more vulnerable units while positioning your own character between that unit and the target.Players can power up in PvE skirmishes and campaigns before challenging friends and enemies to individual or team deathmatches in PvP and climb the leaderboards to earn rewards. Force (top right) – This shows how much Force your Unit contributes to your Force Pool, which is the amount of points you have for performing powerful abilities in the game. An important element of abilities to note is also that they might bestow certain Keywords onto your unit: In the same way that you don’t have full knowledge of every mission card you’ll play, you also don’t have full control of your Strike Force’s sequence of activations. Shatterpointrequires a mastery of reactive tactics. Your strategy must be flexible, you have to ride the winds of the Force. Each activation lets a unit perform two actions. You can choose between one of the following general categories of actions, and you can only do each of them once per activation:

Height and cover play an important part in Star Wars: Shatterpoint - make sure you use them (Image credit: Will Salmon) Kalani, Super Tactical Droid comes in at 5PC with 0 force points, 10 stamina, and 2 durability. 5PC is another one of those awkward point values where it will be hard to move this unit around in squad building. 2 Durability seems to be the standard for all Secondaries and Supporting units so far but 10 Stamina puts him above the curve. special rule instructs a player to Refresh more Force ( v) than they have Spent in their Force Pool, the player This means that even in the worst case of Durability 1, all units are guaranteed at least 1 activation before being pulled off the table. All core box models, even the fragile B1s, have a durability of at least 2 which means they have to be taken down a full two times before they’re removed.
The Shatterpoint Core Set. This starter set for the game contains everything you need to play the game (and then some): If you want a really immersive experience, you’ll also want to buy some sort of game mat that gives your scenery and miniatures something looking like actual ground to stand on, rather than just your dining room table, but it’s entirely optional. Gar Saxon, Merciless Commander takes the role of the Mandalorian Super Commando Secondary and leads his Supporting Mandalorian Super Commandos into battle.
