About this deal

we replaced five legacy passive switches in our network with six 8 POE-60W actively managed switches, and RJ45 serial console port for Command Line Interface (CLI) management. Use an RJ45-to-DB9 serial console cable, also known as a rollover cable, to connect the Console port to your computer. Then configure the following settings as needed: One potential problem with the UXG-Pro is the current state of the UDM-Pro and UniFi OS. Some features on the UDM-Pro are not working, incomplete, buggy, or just missing. Development for the Dream Machines has been steady, but after 9 months, the UXG is still on on beta firmware version 0.5.0. UniFi OS Console - Can run all UniFi applications (Network, Protect, Talk, Connect, Access, and UID) We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

These 2nd generation models have quieter cooling fans, a small touchscreen on the left side, and support for UniFi AR, which lets you see virtually see what devices are connectedUser Tip: An easy way to test the validity of the json file is: python -m json.tool config.gateway.json Deleting Changes or Reverting to Previous State I was very limited on tools and time, but from what I remember I ended up using a nearby dumb switch, nuking the static IP on the Pi controller, rebooting it, and resetting the USG. (Keeping it completely on it's own network using the dumb switch.) I also made sure the USG was forgotten from the controller. Find the appropriate section with the custom changes in the config output, for our example above it would be the following: the best way to fix this issue is by swapping the two OEM fans for Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM Premium-Quality Quiet 40mm fans, as shown in this video, here. Ubiquiti still sells almost all of the 1st generation models of UniFi switches. They are older, but they can be better options for some networks. Unlike with the USG/USG-Pro, the 1st generation switches come without major performance limitations. Older Desktop/Small Switches

Most 1st generation PoE switches have more PoE budget than the equivalent 2nd generation model. They are still a good buy if you need a lot of PoE. Their fans can get loud though. The main way to differentiate UniFi switches is that the 1st generation model names begin with "US-" and the 2nd generation model names begin with "USW-". See UniFi Switches Comparison and Buyers Guide to compare all available models. New Desktop/Small Switches EdgeRouters have been around a long time, and are still technically supported with hotfixes and occasional software updates. The newer UISP hardware line is the safer bet for long term support, although EdgeRouters still have a lot of feature advantages. With the USG Pro 4, our WAN throughput with both IPS and DPI enabled is 479 Mbps up and 647 Mbps down, as reflected on the USG Pro 4’s new speed test. Recommended Configuration Additionally, some IPS are anomaly-based. These IPS focus on statistical deviations from IP traffic baselines. For example, a server might be generating more traffic than usual. Or, a new host might be identified.I remember something similar a while ago when trying to adopt a USG into an existing network using a statically assigned IP raspberry pi as controller.. I changed subnets around and tried to mess with it a bunch of different ways. It DID NOT want to be adopted.

The USG-PRO-4 WAN port, as a result of being a combination SFP/GigE port, is a pure 1 Gbps port – it is incapable of both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps FDX/HDX settings. Enterprise models have higher PoE budgets, faster interfaces such as 2.5 Gbps RJ45 Ethernet, and the features available in the Pro models With DPI on, gigabit performance is possible. With IPS/IDS, throughput drops to 85 Mbps. When being used as a VPN endpoint, throughput is limited to 40 Mbps. See note on hardware offloading below. So, many people have asked what is the benefit of using a UXG-Pro, we’ll be covering that in a separate ‘vs’ article, but in this one we are comparing the brand new UXG-Pro and the previous USG-Pro-4. The fans in the USG and switch are on the loud side. Fortunately for me I have the system in a separate room in the basement so noise isn't an issue.SFP ports are hot-swappable and support 10/100/1000 fiber SFP modules. If an SFP module is plugged in, then the SFP port is active, and the corresponding WAN port is deactivated. By default, the SFP1 port is set to DHCP Client. I think long term, it will be better to move away from that system. Manual configuration file changes were unsupported, poorly documented, and your changes could be removed with firmware updates. Ubiquiti has promised full feature parity (and more!), but we will see. It will take a lot of development work to get parity with the officially supported USG features. Throughput Details Only time will tell how the development goes for the UXG-Pro. If you have an existing UniFi network with your own controller, this is probably going to be a better fit that the UDM or UDM-Pro. The unannounced base UXG should be a good little router, if Ubiquiti can get the software right. This underlying OS difference causes some other differences. The UDM and UXG lines do not support editing the config.gateway.json file. By editing the configuration file manually, you were able to access features that Ubiquiti doesn’t put in the controller GUI. It also let you access hidden settings, and tweak features to work how you want. Normally, behind the scenes, the UniFi controller edits your configuration files for you. That only works with the features that Ubiquiti officially supports. If you’ve ever had to deploy a UniFi network, you know there are a many features not in the GUI. Unfortunately there is nothing like this going forward, and you are limited to what Ubiquiti shows in the controller.
