About this deal

The standard retail DVD transfer used the world over seems to have been zoomed in by around 5%, meaning the Blu-Ray version has more visual information on each side of the frame. Without the nice compare and contrast facility of having the two frame-aspects, we can only concentrate on the slightly cropped widescreen picture. We've got another commentary from Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell to add to all the other ones that they've done for this trilogy. There's also about an hour's worth of deleted footage, alternate scenes and more in "Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor. Discovering The Evil Dead" (13 min) — Made by the fine folks at Blue Underground, this is a great piece that gives a quick overview of how the movie made history and its reception in the United Kingdom.First of all, a couple of the extras features that were promised with this Sony edition, which is a single disc with everything housed on the Blu-ray, as opposed to a supplemental DVD in the US - “Ellen and the Teacher” (? Inventive, imaginative, bravura and ferocious, Raimi's obsessive horror-homage is all these things and more.

The grain structure is understandably thick, but it never takes away from any of the visible detail and gives the image a wonderfully gritty, cinematic appearance. Evil Dead Rise is utterly dark and grim, with a teal blue color grading that just accentuates the inky blackness that it takes place in. Five friends are holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods. The US R1 Anchor Bay The Evil Dead Book Of The Dead DVD designed by Tom Sullivan wasn't released until seven months later on March 5, 2002. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. The great clout as Scotty thunks the axe into her and immediately drops her to the deck has always been quite satisfying, but just you listen to the clarity of the juicy body-parts jittering messily on the floor now! Equal parts slapstick comedy with genuinely scary moments, Sam Raimi's directorial debut is a testimony to what can be accomplished with a limited budget, a great deal of imagination, and an intense passion for making movies. This release also comes with some interesting new extras, a couple of which can only be found in this box-set. Personally, I’m giving it a solid thumbs up, and it doesn’t hurt that it comes with probably the single best Atmos track of the year to date (yes, it edges out Avatar: The Way of Water, and John Wick: Chapter 4). The effects are definitely not overdone, and the surround channels are used effectively and discretely throughout and actually add to the experience without flooding the design with bugaboo bogus steerage and fake signal placement.

Lastly, there's a vintage theatrical trailer (a nostalgic hoot), TV spots and a gallery of stills including candids from the set, production art and posters. Choosing "Play Movie" in the main menu screen will bring up the choices, but you can also switch back and forth while the movie is playing. Although much of the content is different, the widescreen transfer is identical to the Book Of The Dead DVD above, but the open matte transfer is new and also looks the same.A solidly calibrated HDR/DV 4K set is going to make this film really shine, as it showcases incredible details levels, dark blood primaries, and a a moody atmospheric tone that just swelters in the low light. To this day, the film remains as wildly original and over the top as ever and still we can't get enough of it. The only downside of the higher resolution is the clarity afforded to where the skin appliances end and the real flesh begins - which we can now discern a lot more readily.

Five college-aged friends – Ash ( Bruce Campbell), Scott (Richard DeManicor as Hal Delrich), Linda (Betsy Baker), Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) and Shelley (Theresa Tilly as Sarah York) – are all on their way to a remote cabin in the middle of the Tennessee woods, a place where they hope to enjoy a bit of downtime. In ‘Evil Dead 2’ (1987) a young couple chance upon the same remote Tennessee cabin as in the original, unleashing the forces of evil with horrific consequences for themselves and their friends. Shadow delineation is keen and detail is never sunken or lost amid the darker portions of the image. Spiegel, who doesn’t get enough time to speak whilst some of the others have positively too much, tells us of the jack-of-all-trades position that he held behind the scenes during the production. The film itself is transferred from the Japanese 1985 'Herald Videogram' laserdisc, as detailed above.Blacks are incredibly deep and accurate, while delineation in the shadows is much stronger than initially expected. Speech is far more uniform - there's still a lot of discrepancies, you couldn't possibly eradicate them all, but they seem a lot fewer and further between, and certainly less bothersome. With that in mind, this is by far the very best the film has ever looked — a leaps and bounds improvement from previous incarnations. The Ladies of The Evil Dead" are Theresa Tilly (Shelly), Ellen Sandweiss (Cheryl) and Betsy Baker (Linda).
