About this deal

Forget disappointment, the shock and confusion I felt that my mother LOVED the smell of poop is unfortunately a brighter memory than most. Rich, photorealistic rose leads the way, initially slightly green and dewy, but unfurling to become a lush, sweet, powdery rose note. It's a shame they discontinued the Jackie O perfume and I'm sure it doesn't smell the same as the one she wore, but the way the current one smells I'm not sad to see it go anymore.

There were no testers or samples available of Joy so when I first opened the bottle it was a huge disappointment. Calèche has austerity, like her sisters Bandit (les cigarettes as also the galbanum with oakmoss and either civet !Truly a perfumista's perfume and worth having in a collection, if only as a classical perfumery reference.

edit: On the cloth parfum lasts days, in the final it also arrived the like-old-days'-perfume stage. I don't need another pure floral for days when I'm feeling my romantic dreamy side, 'Joy' by Jean Patou does the trick of transformation back to innocence and femininity. In the 70's and 80's, My godmother always drove a big, white Cadillac, and the joke was that when the carpet got dirty, she would get a new one.

Lacroix dared all the crossovers, unexpected combinations of colours, extravagant details (such as the famous tafetta hand-painted toile de jouy cocktail dress), and oriental inspirations reminiscent of those Jean Patou loved them at the time of his splendour. I think I am going to make a little spray bottle for myself - 3/4 Joy EDP combined with 1/4 Tea Rose. But the edp I own from 2013, from Designer Parfums, is

In fact, I was so nervous that I spilled lthe dupe all over my lap when I was getting ready, so I am pretty sure I was smellable. On paper, It was mostly rose, With a bit of dirty musk, But on skin all the notes come to life, Lots of indolic florals (mostly Jasmine? Ylang-ylang here feels like the flower-girl that leads the way for rose, which parades down the aisle, supported by some rubbery tuberose. I will not be wearing this to the flower club meeting - rather - just keep it in my "scent library" .the opening of this is a harsh, shrieking angular rose, like a cubist painting of a glamorous woman - by no means unpleasant, just striking and commanding; less a jubilant busby berkeley choreography scene and more a strange surrealistic dream pulled from the pages of hollywood babylon.

then also] Arpège, Calèche, Ivoire, Narcisse Noire, Shalimar, Bandit, Miss Dior, Cabochard and those we forgot. I don't think it's exactly the same one I tried all those years ago but if you want the ultimate, fresh yet sexy bunch of flowers this isn't a bad place to start. A dandy of the Roaring Twenties and an enlightened aesthete with impeccable taste, he travelled all over Europe and the United States, with an eternal cigarette between his fingertips. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It is dusty, acrid, and maybe someone even decided to relieve themselves in that vase, since there is a bit of a urine smell.Years ago I had a bottle of Joy body lotion, which I hoarded like the Rheingold for years and genuinely mourned when I used the last drop. The bottle, of simple and straight lines with a golden thread around its neck, was designed by the architect Louis Süe in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml sizes for Eau de Parfume and 30ml and 50ml sizes for Eau de Toilette. Last year Joy was sadly discontinued but I am a proud owner of perhaps the last two bottles of edt and edp. I don’t believe it’s been reformulated too far from the original but it could be my age, as I used to wear this in my teens and it was a beautiful scent that held out for days.
