A bonus feature contained the first table script reading session, a certain actor's clear embarrassment and dismay when he came across that bit. While the Sony OLED was found wanting by this episode, though, the Philips OLED looked so good with it that I feel pretty convinced the show was mastered on an OLED monitor. Here, at last, you can watch the whole thing without being distracted by nasty compression blocks, horrible color banding, uneven black levels or a total absence of visible dark detail. Game Of Thrones’ penchant for extremely dark and smoky locations has always made it a major challenge for the world’s various broadcast and streaming platforms.

Experience all eight seasons of HBO’s ground-breaking fantasy television series with the complete Game of Thrones box set, available at Zavvi UK. Season 8 has only 6 episodes - they are epic, but you might feel there are gaps to the full story and its conclusion. The series isn’t presented with by any means the highest average bit-rates I’ve seen on 4K Blu-ray; for the most part you’re looking at rates of between 25 and 50Mbps, with the occasional peak of 60Mbps plus. Although I must say that the drawn-out Winterfell battle in the middle of the series takes place in an ice storm and a dark castle, which is fine it itself but we found ourselves often wondering what exactly was going on with what character.

Laurence hosted the BBC Sounds podcast Obsessed with Peaky Blinders in 2019, as well as his own podcast production, Time of My Life, where he interviews fascinating elders about their life lessons, including Only Fools and Horses' Sir David Jason, Star Trek’s George Takei and Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh. This turns out to be one of the most entertaining listens of all the commentaries thanks to the banter between the three actors, and their genial inquisition of Franco about how his side of the process works. The first commentary for Episode 3 comes from director Miguel Sapochnik, director of photography Fabian Wagner, and camera operator Sean Savage.

Over the past few months I had to try really hard to avoid all spoilers or commentary from excited colleagues. Inevitably many deaths of familiar characters - some overdue, others regretted, one in particular a very real shock. The 4K Blu-ray’s presentation in this episode will also still provide a mighty challenge to many budget TVs.Laurence has been lucky enough to interview numerous celebrities, actors, and musicians throughout his career. As with the second half of season 7, the once fantastic writing of earlier seasons is sacrificed on the altar of trying to wrap an enormous tangle of storylines up in just a handful of episodes. episode 4, things pop really well, with appealing fine detail and generally excellent clarity and sharpness. Since the third 4K disc in the package only has to accommodate episode six, the extra space is used to house a few more non-commentary extras. This particularly irked as a bonus feature dwelt at length on all the preparation given and all the care taken shooting it.

Home Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on 4K Blu-ray Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection. Home Entertainment has a big slate, with 4K upgrades not just for both James McTeigue's V for Vendetta, but also for the complete series of HBO's Game of Thrones. But this still lets the transfer deliver far more data at any given moment than any of the original broadcasts or streams will have got - plus, of course, a 4K resolution, where no 4K version was available when the show first aired.
