Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. However, Alan’s ‘Snap Snap Toothpaste’ hides a truth that no one in the animal kingdom, terrified by Alan, should ever discover – should they? Digitally colored illustrations in pencil, chalk, and paint portray Alan as more of a goofball than a menace, while the jungle animals blend into the background--a good precaution with an alligator neighbor. Like the best picture books, it is a pleasingly simple story, set in a faraway place, with a lot to say to young readers.
