About this deal

From the story of a deceptive hookup girl to a woman who carries on wickedness from her teenage years into adulthood. Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad underscores with wit, humour, wisdom and sensitivity, the perils of trying to find lasting love and companionship in Africa’s most notorious city. I also thought it could have benefited from a further edit, and from more variety in the narrative styles/ voices.

A girl who drugs men to steal from them, a supposed virgin who cheats on her boyfriend with other men, a woman who hates her son and husband, and a Lagos big girl who cheats on her boyfriend with a ‘Yahoo boy’ who ends up cheating on her. A collection of short stories, structured as case-studies, and a form of love letter in solidarity with the women who have survived romantic relationships with men in Lagos….If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, we will happily exchange or refund your items within 14 days of receipt, as long as it is sent back to us in its original condition, this includes original packaging. When Damilare Kuku’s Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad was published in October 2021, it got a lot of backlash from men who thought it was biased and had a deceptive title that dragged gullible ladies to it. Nearly All the Men in Lagos are Mad is a short story collection written by Nigerian author and actress Damilare Kuku. It is a result of a culture of convoluted traditional ideals desperately seeking to find a place for itself in the global, "Western" cultural scene. Anyone who could keep a white shirt clean at the end of the day in Lagos deserved a standing ovation.

The collection starts strong with a witty story that adds a touch of sad shame, but that story gets the reader invested and you are already priming yourself for more.So grab a copy, sit back, and prepare for a riotous journey through the madcap world of Lagosian men.

Out of all the stories my favorite may be the Beard Gang or Sidelined only because of the craziness of the whole thing. Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad underscores with wit, humour, wisdom and sensitivity, the perils of trying to find lasting love and companionship in Africa's most notorious city. The stories are good (at least the ones I read) and the title definitely catchy but the fact that I wasn't warned about its sexual graphic/descriptive content still my biggest issue.

Short stories are always a good start to get off a reading slump or ease you out of the state that heavy books leave you in.

You liked me so much I had no choice but to start liking myself, to start acting respectable, like someone who had something special waiting for them back home. That should not have been comfortable for her and anyone in her shoes would have done the right thing by reporting it to the school authorities. Some were really enjoyable such as Catfish (messy as hell), Ode-Pus Complex (madness) and Cuck-Up (also mad). They are just a reminder of how morally decadent we have allowed ourselves to be; we wallow in a quagmire, splashing mud all around, without first wondering when solid ground became sinking sand.Somehow, the author made Emmanuel the victim of her act of wickedness of reporting him and subjecting him to public humiliation. There’s a story of a young lady who tries to find her oyibo soulmate on the streets of Lagos; another of a pastor’s wife who defends her husband from an allegation of adultery; a wife takes a knife to her husband’s penis; a night of lust between a rising musician and his Instagram baddie takes an unexpected turn. It is once again the man who gets to feel guilty after finding out she is no longer a virgin like he hasn’t been sleeping with her best friend the entire time. The victim card is also whipped out when Emmanuel tells his Uche he still loves her but finds out she has blocked him.
