About this deal

Though a little spiky and cold to begin with, you begin to warm to Kate as she goes through one terrible difficulty after another while always trying to do what she sees as the right thing.

There were some brilliant images and moments when Kate 'sees' things but we don't know whether it is real, an illusion, a memory or a drug induced hallucination. Tomorrow the tour is with Kate of bibliophilebookclub and there are still lots of other stops on the tour to check out. Her resentful sister has not made her sister welcome, and her forbearing husband, Paul, fails to broker peace. Further mystery surrounding the relationship between herself and her seemingly estranged family hints at more dysfunction and even the physical description of her mother's house immediately creates tension and atmosphere akin to a gothic horror story. The experience of walking through mounds of mutilated bodies had affected me greatly and I remember thinking how lucky we were in the West, how chance dictated that some children were born into peace while others were born into conflict. Ellwood, one of the Observer’s “new faces of fiction” for 2017, comes from a family of war reporters. Her resentful sister (Friel) has not made her sister welcome and her forbearing husband Paul (Miles) fails to broker peace.

Even if I didn’t have a weakness for tales of con artists overcoming all adversity to find their own, usually idiosyncratic, happily ever afters, I would still be blown away by this smart, terrific tale of the perfect Southern girl using her wits to conquer all. Producer Bill Kenwright commented on the acquisition: “As a producer I am always looking for that intangible something special. With an elegant and deft touch Nuala Ellwood has created a tale that is gripping, engrossing and surprising at every turn.A DC native, Hufflepuff, and Keyboard Khaleesi, she spends all her non-writing time taking pictures of her cats. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her story and because of Hanauer's talent for storytelling, I look forward to reading more of her work. Kate has an estranged relationship with her sister, Sally, who still lives in the town, and tries to make amends with her, even though Sally doesn’t want to hear anything more from her. Before we get any complaints My Sisters Bones is a recent best selling novel by author Nuala Ellwood described by the Observer as a debut which “…rivals The Girl on the Train as a compulsive read” and producer Bill Kenwright has optioned the rights to make it into a film.

EXCLUSIVE: Olga Kurylenko ( Black Widow), Jenny Seagrove ( Another Mother’s Son), Anna Friel ( Marcella) and Ben Miles ( The Crown) have wrapped production on the under-the-radar psychological thriller My Sister’s Bones, whose first-look images we can reveal today.Cathi Hanauer did a lovely job of creating dynamic, interesting characters that really make you feel something.

Add in the memories of her childhood with an abusive father and the nightmares she still suffers, it is sometimes difficult to tell what’s imagined and what is real and there were many times when I wondered just how reliable Kate’s memories were. The ravages of war, the damage of alcoholism and physical abuse - all were strong themes and I think the author carried them off. My only quibble (and not enough for this to lose a star) is that the reading was quite slow and this was remedied by me changing the setting to 1.However in the middle of the night Kate hears screaming and sees a figure in her garden, going to investigate she swears she can hear a child crying. The heroine could use a bit of common sense occasionally but otherwise good character development for all the players.
