About this deal

Forced to see the world through a bear’s eyes, Kenai sets out on a quest to find the mountain where the light touches the earth and regain his human form; and learns alot about compassion on his journey. As for the actual image: considering the amount of features available on this disc, don’t be surprised by the considerable amount of edge enhancement on display. He has no choice but to see the world through another's eyes while he learns some valuable life lessons and strives to regain his human form.

The idea may seem familiar, and it should, as the practice was employed by Pixar for three of their high-profile animated films, beginning with A Bug's Life. Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis provide a few welcome moments of humor as a pair of Canadian moose who sound more than a little like their Strange Brew characters Bob and Doug McKenzie. Its insert folds out to six pages and contains a scene selection list, a two-page map of bonus features, and previews of the supplements on Discs 1 and 2. In the film, an Inuit boy named Kenai pursues a bear in revenge for a battle that he provoked in which his oldest brother, Sitka, is killed. Some may find the dim-witted banter and heavy sprinkling of "eh"s abrasive, but for me, I found it quite entertaining, for the most part.Nominated for an Academy Award, this mystical coming-of-age fable offers a compelling story, some awe-inspiring animation, a menagerie of cute and comical critters, and power anthems by Phil Collins. Timeless Tales (UK Equivalent: Walt Disney's Fables) • Walt Disney Animation Collection: Classic Short Films • Have a Laugh!

There are also ads for the GameBoy Advance Brother Bear video game and Walt Disney World Magical Gatherings, accessible from the "Sneak Peeks" menu which is accompanied by an intimdiating rift on the familiar Sneak Peeks music. Why I hear you scream, well it has to do with the story of the film and the main character, when he is transformed into a bear his vision changes, hence the wider ratio and more colourful image, it symbolises the characters change and that he is looking at the world and his life differently. The Fishing Song" (3:45) is a number that was written for the film's salmon run scenes, but ultimately replaced by "Welcome", one of the film's most memorable tunes. We got the DVD and there are two discs, one has the movie in a "family friendly" version, the other is the original. This praiseworthy piece takes you through the film's production and boasts an impressive list of interview subjects.

Story didnt grab me at the begining but unfolded slowly into a very good movie with laughs coming mainly from the two dopey moose. The theatrical release of Brother Bear actually used two different aspect ratios during the film- starting with one ratio while Kenai is a human, and then switching to another ratio after being transformed into a bear. Best of all, Brother Bear manages to thrill and amuse audiences with an effectiveness that surpasses most of today's cinema. The film's origins go back to 1994 when Disney CEO Michael Eisner, wowed by The Lion King, asked if any other films about animals were on the drawing board. If I was unable/unwilling to do so, I certainly wasn't going to inflict what should be a gift to kids. The "human" part of the film actually had black bars on the sides of the film (like watching regular tv on a widescreen television) to depict the narrower view of a human. Having watched the latter version, I believe that I remember black bars appearing above and below the picture for the "bear" part- switched from full screen to widescreen at that point. As with the most potent Disney animation, Brother Bear fully emerges the viewer in story and characters.

Unfortunately, there is no section containing trailers for Brother Bear, even though a few different previews for the film appear on other discs, including The Lion King and Treasure Planet. Among those who appear are directors Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker, producer Chuck Williams, Roy Disney, Joaquin Phoenix, Phil Collins, Tina Turner, Dave Thomas, and Rick Moranis.
