About this deal
So this is first for my with this author but I've heard lots of great things about her so when I got the offer of an early read I thought I'd take the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about and I can now completely understand why she is so highly rated. Cleo narrates her own story, while her niece Lola adds a really interesting take, allowing you to step back and take on a different perspective. Not much happens in the first half of the book and then SO MUCH happens in the last couple of chapters that it was somewhat jarring; and the end, while twisty, left me with unanswered questions. Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters.
Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. I was totally gripped throughout the reading wondering why main character and successful author Cleo was dismantling her. None of the characters were likeable, the story took an age to get going, and the ending was both unbelievable (not in a good way) and disappointing. Somehow the first few chapters read like any other women's fiction book to me, especially because I chuckled quite a few times. I certainly couldn’t predict how the story would eventually play out, anyway, and it constantly took me by surprise, so this was such a great reading experience for me overall.I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nail, troubled many times as certain revelations took place. Dorothy Koomson always knows how to pull her readers into a storyline and keep you completely wrapped up in the protagonist’s lives. This is another winner from a very talented author and someone whose books I will always want to read. I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this.
Proudly announcing that TEA BOOKS is new Serbian publisher of Dorothy Koomson :) I fell in love with Dorothy's writing with her book "My Best Friend's Girl" and I became her first Serbian editor.
I was hooked from the very first page, this is a novel where the tension builds with each chapter until it is almost reading through your fingers time.
