About this deal

R. Giger mentioned that the source of his interest in the macabre was Jesus’ bleeding head he had observed in catholic kindergarten. As you may or not know, I have been sorting through boxes of books that have been collected by me and fam over the last decade or two, and I am desperately trying to thin the collection.

Giger managed to capture a certain spirit of the twentieth century and crystallise particular (anti)aesthetic propositions.Following high school, Giger studied architecture and industrial design at Zurich’s School of Applied Arts. The metaphor of the body as a mechanism found its use in education, among others – for example, this illustration by the pioneer of infographics, Fritz Kahn, titled Der Mensch Als Industrielpalast (meaning Man As Industrial Palace ), was published in 1926. The rest of the creature’s anatomy is somewhat unclear – some of it is reminiscent of Cthulhu’s tentacles from Lovecraft’s mythology, while other fragments added to the body are mechanical.

Born on February 5, 1940 in Chur, Switzerland, Hans Rudolf “Ruedi” Giger (HR Giger) was a surrealist painter, sculptor, and set designer.R.Giger conducts you through his diverse alien landscapes, inhabited by the spectral offspring of his vivid dreams and darkest nightmares. Although there is an emphasis on his later work for most of the book, there are some wonderful pieces from his earlier years that are primarily created with ink and traditional techniques, as opposed to his later airbrush work.

R. Giger Necronomicon – including Satan I, a painting depicting the titular Satan using the arms of the crucified Christ as a slingshot. Lovecraft was recommended to Giger by his friend, Sergius Golowin – a librarian, occultism aficionado, and Timothy Leary’s companion during his Swiss “exile”. The airbrush stuff is arresting to one seeing Giger's art for the first time, but it pales a little after one sees his 70s airbrush murals.Although this book does not feature art of the quality of Necronomicon (generally featuring his best artwork in my opinion) or Necronomicon 2, Biomechanics rounds off Giger's most productive period from the late 60s to the late 80s. Some longer tears to front corners of DJ, internally reinforced, smaller tears to rear edges of jacket, some creasing at these areas, light finger marks and signs of usage to fly-leaf, indents to base of boards with small area of rubbing wear lower front edge of board, tight binding, unmarked. So, after all that, I looks it up after looking and reading it a bit; it's huge, got it's own case and everything. In his works, elements of architectonic education can be noted – monstrous interiors and churning half-mechanical bodies possess certain elements of a gothic cathedral: a kind of exaltation and majesty. R. Giger Necronomicon, O’Bannon suggested that Scott bring Giger to work on their sci-fi horror film.
