About this deal

Give them a pair of lightning claws and dump them into a Termite Drill and you’ve got a 100-point unit that can throw out 26 lightning claw attacks on the charge and with an Icon of Excess and a +1 to hit turn that into 30+ hits, all at the low cost of 100 points. Helping with that is the mobility that their warp-jump generators are going to give them, and also provide to the Autarch here. Over the last 15 years, the Aeldari have been the recipients of a fairly measly scattering of new figures every now and then, leaving the vast majority of their range back in the early Noughties. Then with the Ranger Cloak, they will be getting an additional 1 to their saving throw, so when combined with the Gloom Field, they will have much more survivability than the 5+ save suggests. It’s worth noting that like with Shadow Throne there are no points values for any of the units, just power ratings.

For each five Rangers, you can now take either a Gloom Field (giving a limited version of their old -1 to hit, working as Dense Cover while outside 18″) or a Wireweave Net. But this release is for the Aeldari fans, who have seen neither hide nor hair of a new model in literally years, and whose entire collectable range is in desperate need of a facelift (that does seem to be slowly coming). The Warpsmith model is absolutely gorgeous with some nice echoes of his former Astartes standing with it being a corrupted mirror of the loyalist version! It may not necessarily have quite the gravitas nor the fanfare of a new edition release, such as Indomitus, Dominion or Octarius, but there’s still a lot at stake here. The Farseers gifted her a special Wraithbone piece of jewellry and sent her on her way with cryptic warnings. The Death Spinner is no slouch either, being the flamer+++ option, getting d6 auto-hits at S6 AP-2, and also having Blast. This is a shame, as I imagine all of these will be changing in the new Chaos Space Marines Codex – but this is perhaps a sign that the Codex is a little further away, towards the summer perhaps!

They’ve gone from being a nigh-forgotten, unloved and underappreciated range to sporting some of the best-looking miniatures currently on the market.I just feel that you, as a part of the Warhammer Community and not part of the GW cooperation have to have a better pro-Community and pro-Consumer approach – which should influence a review. Going forward I hope they fix this and make these battle boxes more user-friendly in the way you approach the units contained within. All of these models, save for the Forgefiend, are brand new sculpts, and each comes with its own datasheet included in the 32-page Eldritch Omens booklet.

As you may have seen above, I have attached one of these to my Autarch, and do not expect to regret that decision – having a key character (and their fusion gun) be able to get where you need them is always super valuable. I’m a relatively inexperienced 40K player with only a handful of (relatively disastrous, but nonetheless fun) losses to my name, so I’m always a little hesitant to pass too much of a judgement on these little pamphlets. For a long time, the formula for the miniatures in the battlebox has been to include two units of existing figures for each warring faction, and a new hero model for each side. It’s also worth mentioning that the latest AoS Box set, Fury of the Deep, as well as the new Kill Team Starter Set both came with condensed or “mini” versions of each game system’s rules. The Autarchs’ actual statline hasn’t changed – still pretty much standard for a senior character, with maybe the only surprise being that they do still only get 4A (though the toys more than make up for that, as we’ll see). Next, the wargear gives them Dense Cover for a large part of the game, and once per game you can inflict mortals or make the charge much harder. You’ll be able to join in the conflict on either side with Eldritch Omens , the next battlebox coming to Warhammer 40,000.
