David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996; the feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. I haven't read the John Puller series but my husband is a fan and he was excited to see the crossover of worlds.

Murder and political corruption are at the center of this mystery, and this time in addition to her intrepid FBI assistant Carol Blum she has John Puller as a partner in tracking down these evil people. Then again, I am but a single reader/reviewer and I have not seen others comment on this in their own summaries of the book. Pine could alert the authorities, subsequently dispatching Army CID and Puller to the scene, it may have allowed her to wrest control of the plot and not make her storyline seem secondary. In FBI Agent Atlee Pine, he has envisioned a new kind of heroine, forged in the fire of trauma and driven by a rare kind of strength. There is always a side mystery going on in these stories and lots of interesting characters, short chapters, moves very quickly.

Daylight is an action Packed crime thriller featuring kick ass FBI agent Atlee Pine along with her loyal assistant Carol Blum. Sudden murders are quickly shut down by the local police and then later completely quashed by government agencies and Puller is warned off from following up. It would seem the sleuthing both Pine and Puller are doing has caused someone to feel the heat, as they are both targeted and almost killed.

While following leads, Pine crosses paths with CID John Puller whom she has worked with on other cases and it appears that his case has some overlap with Pine’s case, so they decide to work together. Key figures of interest keep ending up dead, and Puller faces what appear to be insurmountable obstacles in his path, obstacles that stink to high heaven of the highest levels of political interference, obstacles so powerful that they can remove a 4 star military general from his position when he starts asking questions for Puller. Atlee Pine is finally closing in on finding answers to what happened to her twin sister- but naturally, there are complications… LOTS of complications. He has a lot worth discussing throughout the piece and his appearance does complement Pine well, though, as I have said multiple times, he steals the show. Atlee Pine is a strong, courageous protagonist and her military friend, John Puller is just an all-out admirable, stand-up guy (I heard someone say Baldacci had another series that focuses on Puller, so now I have to get those books too!Not only does this create a greater sense of urgency but it creates increased confusion while changing the course of the investigation. In total, David has published 48 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers and several have been adapted for film and television. Puller and Pine combine forces to investigate a drug dealing operation at Fort Dix, where one of the principals is related to the man who attacked Pine's father accusing him of the heinous family crime. Whilst the global conspiracy is an exciting, fast paced and compelling thrill ride aspect of this novel, it is perhaps Pine's personal family history and what she uncovers that really catches the reader's attention.

It would seem that Tony Vincenzo has been using his muscle to bring pills into Fort Dix, which is how Puller finds himself involved. Things escalate quickly as Puller's partner is killed, a young black student is gunned down as the culprit as Pine is trying to help, and then Puller is almost killed.Feeling intrigued about where John Puller's case was taking them, she decides to stay and help with the investigation, hoping to find more clues about Mercy in the process. Atlee finds she has inadvertently stumbled on a military operation to arrest Tommy for drug dealing, her appearance allowing Tommy an opportunity to escape. Now, just as time is running out on her investigation, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet -the identity of her sister’s kidnapper: Ito Vincenzo. David Baldacci is also the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across America.
