About this deal

But parents, be warned, your kids will probably beat you, and they’ll want to keep beating you over and over again. I think Mantis shows that Exploding Kittens is trying to think about how to expand its audience, and that’s both good and interesting for gaming.

The box (inside and out), the cards, even the mini comic inside by the Oatmeal explaining just the amazing colour receptiveness of the Mantis Shrimp, is an explosion of colour. If the character color matches any of the cards already in your tableau, move all characters of that color into your score pile. p>SCOUT is a ladder-climbing game in which cards have two potential values, players may not rearrange their hand of cards, and players may pass their turn to take a card from the current high set of cards into their hand. Note that each coloured suit also helpfully has a unique design and symbol to make Mantis non colour dependent).br />
In more detail, to set up, you lay the box open on the table, place the "cat head" dividing screen upright in the center of the board, place the black "nose" ball in the center of the cat's face, set the three white "teeth".

To save you from having to carry the board game box all the time, we created a compact card holder To Go for you.If it matches any color card in their Tank, take all cards of that matching color (including the card you just flipped) and add them to your Tank ( not your Score Pile).

Okay, before I get myself into a technicolour tizz, I’m going to tell you about the new card game from the team behind Exploding Kittens (then I am going back to the colours….

In a two-player game, you can really successfully bully a player with multiple consecutive successful Steals (or Steals chained into a Score).

On your turn, you take the top card off the deck and decide if you are going to try to use it to (a) score cards matching one of the colours also present in your area or (b) steal cards matching one of those 3 colours from an opponent. The rest of the cards are kept in a draw pile that is left facedown, with the backs of the cards providing the group with clues as to what is contained on the front. I like a weird theme, but I also like a weird theme that feels integrated into the gameplay in a way that matters, rather than just a weird theme for the sake of a weird theme. And we will take Mantis because it’s a great little competitive card game that anybody can pick up and play.Your goal is to get 10 Mantis Shrimp cards into your Score pile, and you’ll need to steal a few if you want to get there. There are also special rules for two players which work fine too – effectively, when you steal successfully, you get to have another turn, and the winning threshold is 15 rainbows. Not just in terms of stealing from each other, but you’ll also see players goading other players into trying to steal from their rivals and just generally jockeying for certain actions and interactions, which makes the game more fun. In the meantime, though, Mantis will probably end up in a Quiver that I take to game nights with newer gamers. Mantis is a solid iteration on simple, easy-to-learn card games, and shows the power of a bit of good design.
