About this deal

A single LED can last for over 20,000 hours, giving you a fly killer that barely needs to be maintained even after years of use. With models like this, which I have, I simply plug them into a smart plug and set them to come on in the evening when they are likely to prove the most effective. If you have house flies to kill, the only successful way I have found is using an electric racket-type zapper, like the BUGZILLA Electric Bug and Fly Zapper, (you can read a more detailed review along with features further down) and this brings me to possibly my favourite, electric racket-style bug zapper. Hanging it from the ceiling is usually a good approach; that’s why all our fly killers come with a free hanging chain! However, even the open front traps in operation do not immediately attract all of the flies in a room ( Lillie and Goddard 1987).

Additionally, we read as much as we could about bug zappers, immersing ourselves in academic studies and looking at a wide variety of university publications, many from extension offices. The LED strips use less energy than conventional fly killer units, are low glare and the discreet design of the units reduces the visibility of caught flies.Because of the irresistible lure of their light, bug zappers are incredibly effective at killing bugs. Personally, I go with a combination of a racket-style zapper for house flies such as blue bottles because they are not attracted by the blue UV light and then I use a static electric fly killer with some serious voltage to deal with mosquitos and other bugs that are drawn in by the blue UV light. You should catch a wider variety of flying bugs this way, but it still doesn’t work on blue bottles. Most static models have an ON button and sometimes (on more advanced models) a couple of options for the power settings.

The benefits of a zapper are that they’re affordable and low-maintenance, so you can easily pick one or two up for the house, turn them on, and forget about them.

The protective and strong mesh grid on the front and back of the unit is made of metal; the bars of this are spaced fairly closely together, keeping out inquisitive fingers. The obvious way to do this is to keep your doors and windows closed, but this isn’t always practical in the summer months when you’ll want a bit of sunlight and a cooling breeze around the house. If you don’t, the unit will still kill any flies that happen to bumble into the killing grid, but it won’t actually attract them like it used to. So one of the features I really like (that most other models don’t have) is the ability to rotate the racket head so you can easily trap flies against walls and windows. Another theory is that flies and other insects use the UV light from sunlight as a means of navigation, and they get confused by other light sources.

Adopting a comprehensive flies control solution can help minimise risks of financial impact and regulatory complaince issues such as penalty and points demerits. For best results, and to ensure safe and effective results, please read the Operating Instructions in full before use. If you ever notice, at certain time of the day, particularly at night, you would see flies hovering around the lights.
