So it took a few years to figure it out but I now don’t focus on winning but more making sure everything I can control is being controlled and then the racing takes care of itself. If I’m good enough to win an event then that’s great, but there can only be one winner and it’s a big commitment to take on one of these events, so fundamentally I make sure I’m enjoying it. Anything else is a bonus. There are five flavours available: chocolate orange, peanut butter jelly, peanut butter, chocolate raspberry, and chocolate walnut brownie. The sweet date flavour is dominant in each of these – you can tell it's the main ingredient – and there's no huge flavour difference between them, which I find is the case for many raw energy bars. He said the company will continue to stay focused on the UK market with the view of European expansion in the first-quarter of 2020. A full endurance offering Objectives and plans were put to one side for a bit and I ended up working on the farm, but did way too much which was a nice distraction in a lot of respects but at the same time the work / bike balance was somewhat upset.

Sure, it's a bit more time consuming than grabbing a pre-made gel, and it takes a bit of learning, but it's a darn sight cheaper. You can add in a gelling agent to make it more gel-like if you really want to replicate the gel texture, but when I do this, I save the extra money and leave it as a liquid. This clearly put you in good stead as you went on to win that 2015 edition of the TCR. Can you remember your feelings when reaching the finish?

Why choose Rawvelo?

It also means that, using the maximum recommended 6g (not mg) of salt per day, you are ingesting 1/6 of your maximum recommended daily salt intake in one single bidon. A couple of servings would then make it 1/3 of the maximum, before you account for any of the food you have eaten/will eat that day.

G:F ratio: This relates to the Glucose to Fructose ratio. With the body's ability to process 60 grams of glucose and a further 30+ grams of fructose per hour, it's useful to know what ratio is provided in each serving to help you fuel efficiently. The Tour Divide starts on 10 th June and then once that’s done I’m looking forward to a break afterwards. After that, the focus will be firmly on the Atlas Mountain Race and Rhino Run later this year in October. This 16th October will see the inaugural Tanfield Tour of Yorkshire take to the roads of the county, created by the highly talented Tanfield brothers, both professional riders as well as former national and world champions in their own rights. The sportive sees 150 riders take on either 47, 115, or 147 km routes, each with Rawvelo feed stations to keep everyone energised and hydrated throughout the day. The years after TCR15 I felt that I had to win any event that I attended. But by focusing on just winning you often forget the basics and without the basics you often don’t finish, let alone win. I had been considering an event, a sportive of some description, in and around the area for a year or two. I think from COVID times when I was just out training at home all the time with my brothers, really exploring and taking in all of the North York moors, it was then I kind of thought this would really be some great roads for a cycling event which is completely under utilised. We started to pull a plan together but with the demands of racing in the season things never progressed to anything more than a good idea really. Added extras: Does the gel add in any other performance-enhancing ingredients or technologies such as caffeine.

Both myself and Charlie will be riding on the day and we hope people will want to join us, chat along the way and enjoy the day. Besides the route, we’ll have, then at the end we’ll be hosting a post-event BBQ and charity raffle which I’m sure will be really fun and a great way to share stories from the day and to meet others. Even some of the best energy gels have their downfalls. The most commonly cited of these is the potential for an upset stomach that they can cause. Ultimately, this will be personal to each user. Some will suffer this a lot, others never. To overcome it, opt for gels that are easier on the stomach, such as SIS Go Isotonic, and start with a small amount per hour and build it up in training. My habitual (diabetic) carb-counting adjustment bars from Aldi ("Benefit") also in several flavours which have 10g of carb each in them (helps with the hour by hour constant mental maths), cost 80p for 5 bars, and 2-2.5 bars (ie 40p) are pretty much in the same ballpark as one of the above reviewed bars for energy, so 4-5x less expensive per energy quantity. Testing the best energy gels is a much more involved process than simply eating them all in one sitting and giving myself hyperglycaemia.

Bernefit: fat about 10-12% lower, protein a few % lower, fibre 5-15% higher. Quite variable by flavour.
