About this deal

DIY is the answer, that way you know what the real condition of the metal is, what the quality of the paintwork is, and if it's a bad job, you only have yourself to blame!

The spray cans were the best value I could find but did tend to clog even though the weather was hot. Make up a thin extension hose to a vacuum cleaner and feed this inside first, sucking out any debris you can find.I know a bit about this because I will be having the same done to my car later this year once the weather improves. With a hole say every 2 feet, angling the sprayer, and using really hot Waxoyl, you can hear it blasting around inside the chassis. Saying that the old Waxoyl on the chassis has done a reasonable job, but would rather spend a bit extra on something decent I think. Should be used to spray inside places that cannot be reached from outside, such as box sections, inner sills and chassis rails. One of my workmates is Australian, and he said over there they used to pump their cars full of fish oil because it was cheap.

but I was still fighting with the hot octopus trying to switch the damned thing off, but I failed, I was saved when it ran out. I used to heat it up on the camping stove, outside, in a galvanised pail, with the paraffin sloshed in, stirring it up with a stick. The problem appears to be priming it but as all the pipes appear to be clear maybe I'm missing something so any wisdom about getting them going again - I did give it a good clean with white sprits last time but maybe its now just too old or something?I did pay (waste) a few hundred pounds, but at dealer rates that probably only equates to 2 hours labour + materials. For a full treatment though you do need to clear the crud off, then rust treat it, paint it with whatever flavour you like be it hammerite or POR15 and then treat with Dinitrol . So this morning, time for action… up she goes on the axle stands, wheels off, scrapers in my hand to tackle the rust, and white spirit and a selection of rags to get rid of the gunge. After looking it would seem a combinaton of dinitrol 3125 followed by a protective coat of 4941 is the way to go. The good news is that the chassis is actually in excellent condition, really solid, but I dread to think what it would have been like in another year if I’d just patched up the gunge.

Absolutely, Waxoyl is specially designed to kill old rust and prevent rust from forming, it will help prolong the life of your vehicle as it creates a flexible weatherproof skin. We are distributors for several reputable manufacturers of rust proofing equipment and surface preparation tools including ASSALUB, Monti MBX, Tex Indasa, and Lemmer. It does appear as the solvent comes out it shrinks, and cracks appear where its too thick, or as you say it can block drainage areas.Speaking to fellow TVR DIYers they recc up on axel stands once a year for a good look and re apply of the anti rust stuff. In other areas the Black Waxoyl is more suitable and blends in with underseal and underbody type coatings.
