When discharged, these agents are in the combined form of a gas/mist or a liquid, which rapidly evaporates after discharge with about twice the range of carbon dioxide. On the downside, their placing is crucial, since they could be set off erroneously when the ambient temperature reaches the trigger level. These very powerful, but smaller, devices exude an ultra-fine mist of microscopic ‘dry’ demineralised water particles. The agent itself has little cooling effect, and, because of its surface coating characteristic, it cannot penetrate below the burning surface. In this way, it adheres to burning materials and forms a coating that smothers and isolates the fuel from air.
