It's not often the panel of experts at Booksfc review books that are classics, or even 'instant classics'. With clues ingeniously placed throughout the book, readers will love to follow the adventure beyond the written page.

Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. Whilst exploring his garden the day after the storm hits, Asa discovers a creature which he initially thinks is a large dragonfly-like insect lying in the pond. Not wand-waving Tinkerbells but sinewy insect-men: wild creatures that must be secretive and hardly ever spotted. Acclaimed actor Mackenzie Crook has written this beguiling fantasy about an undiscovered magical species and a boy’s quest to help them.

This is a lovely book - a great modern fairytale, where a young boy finds a strange creature in his pond after a storm, and then goes on a quest to find out more. There are magical beings, the Windvale Sprites, who inexplicably share the English language but little else with humans, but no magic occurs, save for the sprites’ treasured relic, which I won’t divulge the details of in the interest of encouraging others to read this marvellous book.

I thought it was a fairy at first and I thought it looked like it had lots of long words inside and no pictures.

With a thrilling plot, exciting characters and moderate violence, this fast-paced fantasy adventure is the first instalment of a riveting trilogy. When a storm sweeps through the country, Asa wakes up the next day to find that his town is almost unrecognisable – trees have fallen down, roofs have collapsed and debris lies everywhere.Asa discovers that the creature is a sprite, first identified by the mysterious Benjamin Tooth on Windvale Moor two hundred years previously. A lovely and enchanting story, told simply with delightfully atmospheric and accomplished illustrations by the author.

The Windvale Sprites by Mackenzie Crook - review

A lot of the story relates to the new book, and I enjoyed it more knowing some of the background of Benjamin Tooth and the Windvale Sprites. He is my favourite character because he wants to find out what the Windvale Sprites are and how they live. They chronicle his journey of scientific discovery from pompous boy to mad old man in his pursuit of the sprites on Windvale Moor.
