The Midnight Fox - first published in 1970 - was a wonderful story of a city boy reluctantly going to stay on a farm with family friends while his parents are on a cycling tour in Europe.The book as a whole was nicely believable, and I didn't have to suspend my disbelief at all, which is often the case with Morpurgo's books. I was draw through the pages right to the end wondering how the fox and the farm and the forest would mix - they don't always and this book is no exception. The animals attempts to make the farm a democracy, but Napoleon, the pig leader, takes over and eventually becomes the new tyrant. Renata finds at a crucial moment that she can help the chicks learn to fly, even with the bittersweet knowledge that it will only hasten their exits from her life. It was as if I had just learned a new and exciting game that I wanted to play more than anything else in the world.

Not much action, but lots of insight into the quiet 9-year-old only child who seems to explore mainly with his eyes. In “The Romance of the Fox”, mirroring is utilized to represent the connection between the boy and the fox. Using an abcb rhyme scheme, Boynton dresses Pookie in a series of cheerful costumes, including a dragon, a bunny, and even a caped superhero. The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac is a futuristic version of the world which has been divided into two parts.In the book Animal Farm and the book The Pearl, the two characters, Napoleon and the Doctor, created a theme that greed can change their perspective. This was something we were working on as class during literacy lessons and I thought I noticed some 'magpieing' taking place! I did not like to open a bookcase, especially with someone watching, and know that I had to take one, HAD to.

In The Pearl the many themes in the book help you see big and small impacts to characters and the world around them, the themes also help you convey the main idea of the story. Hazeline has her dramas with her boyfriend Mikey, who wants her to shed some weight before he commits to a longterm relationship, but Tom doesn't mind occasionally being a voice of reason for Hazeline. The Midnight Fox written by Besty Byars is a novel that conveys two main themes; what it means to be human and relationships between humans and wildlife.It can be used as a guided reading text, an assessment piece or as an introduction to the text in general. My other issue with this story is that not much really happens plot-wise, which I suppose is a result of most of the pages being dedicated to Tom’s aforementioned thoughtfulness and insight.
