I love a dessert I can make on a weeknight that doesn’t take forever and doesn’t leave me with a ton of clean up. I would be tempted to blame the fruit/myself rather than the recipe, but this was posted on the NYT cooking site as well, and the problem with liquid seems to be super common. And, if you use simple syrup instead of granulated sugar, you don’t have to wait for the crystals to dissolve.

I can see why Alison Roman says “If you told me I could never bake a pie or a galette ever again but I could have this tart that would be fine by me, because this tart does everything a pie or galette should do, almost better. I developed this idea recently after looking for another creative way to help my daughter eat more nutrient dense foods.

In Sweet Enough, Alison has written the book for people who think they don’t have the time or skill to pull off dessert. I think I will make chocolate pastry from Anna Olson and then use this chocolate filling which we all agreed is the best we have tasted.

We like MisFits protein powder in vanilla or salted caramel and Free Soul protein powder in vanilla or ginger. Almond or peanut butter are our absolute favourites but there are lots of different flavour combos now available (chocolate and hazelnut will make everything taste better! Saturating the spirit with sugar prevents it from extracting the natural fruit sugars – and other flavours – from the berries.Yes - you need to use a stand or handheld mixer but honestly you just let it do its thing and add the ingredients. Freshly baked, topped with fresh strawberry and banana slices, Ferrero Rocher pieces, marshmallows, chopped nuts, and drizzled in luxury Nutella sauce.

Roman is very keen on seasoning, saying “I like salt so much that if you’re not used to, ahem, appropriately seasoned desserts, you may taste these recipes and interpret some things as ‘salty’, which I take as a compliment”. I baked it a day ahead and kept it tightly wrapped in plastic, as recipe suggests, but it didn’t stop the strawberries from relaxing (and I don’t think I underbaked it). She’s not without her controversy, as she explains in her exclusive Telegraph interview but there’s no doubt that Roman’s recipes are creative without being fussy and deliciously do-able. I first tried this out about a year ago when my 1 year-old daughter was having some challenges with constipation, but prunes are much more than a constipation cure, they are incredibly sweet and rich in minerals.You can include any type of chopped nuts in your yogurt bowl including walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts or pistachios. I used 12oz of frozen raspberries and microwaved them for 30 secs to take off the chill after reading ncollyer comment. While a few sprinkles of cinnamon in your yogurt won’t be a magic cure, it certainly is worth incorporating into meals, particularly yogurt, for great flavor and a hint of sweetness.
