So in a way, allowing the child to be violent is compounding some of the causes associated with their behaviour. If this still doesn’t apply to your child therapeutic parenting techniques can still help parents and children who are struggling with certain issues.Aside from work, I enjoy going for walks, reading, watching true crime documentaries, and listening to podcasts. It’s doesn’t mean they’ll grow up damaged but they will have a tendency to use their base brain instead of higher thinking. In this episode, Jessica Jackson, an academic and practicing social worker as well as the adopter of two sibling boys joins us to advise on how to help a traumatized child go to sleep. Learn about how the True Fostering Agency and the new SAfER Fostering Agency in Wales successfully guide parents through difficulties that include false allegations, compassion fatigue and mental health issues. We strive to be a place where parents can come together to build relationships, gain knowledge and share experiences. Due to high demand, we’ve recently added new training including online and face to face courses to ensure there’s an option for everyone. Her words of wisdom centre around understanding what is going through the mind of the child based on their previous experiences – which might have taught them to be very wary indeed of adults.I have developed a passion and commitment to understanding developmental trauma and therapeutic parenting and can see that children need the gift of understanding their own stories. Many, many courses that people attend teach deescalation strategies and verbal communication strategies. I would also like to thank the parents who contribute every day to our Facebook group and give us all such great inspiration and ideas. Most are based on principles of building safe, strong relationships that combine affection and comforting along with clear behavioural expectations and routines, ‘ explains Hughes. National Association of Therapeutic Parents Who We Are | National Association of Therapeutic Parents

In my home life, I have a sporty teenage boy and as a family we like to have picnics, go on long walks and roadtrips to the beach. Because if you’re using therapeutic parenting techniques or therapeutic teaching, and you’re on the same page, the child is going to feel a lot safer and be more contained, so a lot of the parents for, example, that have been on our Managing Violent Behaviour courses, have found that since doing the course, they don’t need to use any of the physical management strategies for the critical-level violence, because now they are feeling safer and more confident and that ‘presence’ is being communicated to the child, that the parent or carer is more confident – they’re not scared of the child.Whether you are a busy parent looking for a quick solution to help manage your child, or a more experienced therapeutic parent/supporting professional needing certificated easy learning for your CPD, you're in the right place! You may notice that in this book I don’t mention too much about attachment, nor all the other diagnoses our children may have. High cortisol levels in children can be like a smoke alarm constantly going off but with therapeutic parenting this can be quietened or switched off. I enjoy working for TRUE supporting the families, spending time with the children and being part of a therapeutic team, which feels like a family to make a difference in helping young people’s lives.
