About this deal

We ask all users help us create a welcoming environment by reporting posts/comments that do not follow the subreddit rules. Julene and Rozalia, who seemingly have a history, engage in a battle of magic of such scale that Taniel begins to wonder about their true nature. The trilogy primarily takes place in the fictional kingdom of Adro, one of the Nine Kingdoms founded by Kresimir, a semi-mythical figure now worshiped as a deity. He stabs Rozalia, a Predeii, through the chest with a bayonet and throws Julene, another Predeii, off a 10,000ft cliff (although she does survive).

Field Marshal Tamas, commander of the Adran Army, has just committed a brutal coup against Adro's monarchy. All the while, Tamas tries to keep his new city and council in one piece, and the mighty Kez nation have smelled blood in the water and are on the way with their immense army.

As enemies emerge from the shadows and the investigation takes a disturbing turn, Adamat must decide where his loyalties lie. The next day, Manhouch, his queen and many of the arrested nobles are executed by guillotine, ending the monarchy in Adro and leading the country on the path to civil war. There’s a rich and inventive magic system that pitches a more traditional fantasy magic system against the powdermages, whose expertise is in manipulating gunpowder. Yet his actions have far-reaching consequences of which no reasonable man could have conceived, and the king will prove the easiest obstacle to overcome in his quest to free Adro.

The field marshal instructs Adamat to find what the words mean and what the threat could mean for the future. When Adamat is summoned to the palace in the middle of the night, the last thing the veteran investigator expects is to arrive during a regime change. And that’s just the start of Promise of Blood, one of the flagship titles of everything flintlock fantasy is supposed to be. Really, it just felt like they were there for the fantasy of them even though it is mentioned that the harems may exist as a sort of breeding program.

The use of gunpowder, the abilities the Powder Mage’s have, and the way that they conflict with other magic users, makes this story even more captivating. The leader of these creatures, the Nameless One, has been trapped in the Abyss for ages after having been severely wounded by the sword Ascalon wielded by Galian Berethnet. Too many of the scenes felt like a play-by-play, he did this, and then this happened, and then this.

It’s pretty rare that I get the first 50 pages into a book and decide on the spot to go purchase the rest of a series, but there are times when you just know that you’re going to love an author’s work.Borbador reveals to them that the cave lion was Julene, who is not a Privileged, but rather a member of an ancient caste of immortal sorcerers known as Predeii. Adamat eventually travels to the South Pike, a large mountain fortress in southern Adro where he meets with the last remaining member of the Royal Cabal, Privileged Borbador. Taniel 'Two-Shot', the Field Marshal’s son, nurses his broken heart by going after his dad’s enemies along with a savage red-headed girl whose magic is entirely different and way scarier than anything else you’ll see in the trilogy. His relationship with famed general Tamas is a strained one, and despite his best efforts, Tamas always seems to want him around as no more as a particularly useful soldier. She is stopped by Olem, who has been chosen as Tamas's bodyguard (due to his ability to go without sleep), and reveals that Jakob is still alive and will be sent to the countryside to be raised unaware of his claim to the vacant throne.
