As well as a gentle incline option and a zip-down side, it also has seven height adjustments that make it suitable for most beds. This crib slotted well next to our tester’s bed too, with a sturdy base and strong straps that clipped together easily for ultimate peace of mind. It goes without saying that life with a new baby can be messy, so being able to wipe clean or pop fabrics in the washing machine is a must.

Also look for a crib that has a protective barrier around the sides so baby can’t roll from their bed into your own, and one that can be adjusted height-wise; it’s vital that your baby’s mattress sits flush or just a touch lower than yours.Assembling this crib proved to be straightforward, and the bassinet is deep, wide, and spacious so baby has plenty of room to grow. We confidently show up for the first day of pre-school, for birthday parties, park picnics, and every moment in between. As any new parent will tell you, those first few weeks with your baby are a mix of pure nerves, excitement and exhaustion.

The Iora comes with a foam mattress measuring 80cm x 50cm x 30cm, and baby Chloe seemed happy and slept well. Sure, at the start, the adrenalin of having a newborn will see you through the night, but as the days roll on (and into each other), dragging yourself out of bed – sleepy and sore – doesn’t get any easier, which is where a bedside crib can be helpful.

There’s perhaps not as much padding around the bassinet itself as some of the other brands we tested, but the mattress is comfortable, firm and offers a cosy space for your little one to snooze.
