There is a lot going on in this book with all of the characters dealing with the fallout and investigation into the multiple missing persons as well as a lot of personal and interpersonal dramas that may or may not have played a part in those disappearances.Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, disappear shortly thereafter, just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen. Through flashbacks, we learn that Shelby's (unclothed) body eventually was found, with her husband Jason as the primary suspect.

The ending suggests that, though some form of justice has been served, the trauma and ripple effects of Bea’s actions can never be fully resolved. A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. As with most of the Mary Kubica books I’ve read, the conclusion is a bit of a WTF (well that fizzled).This is convenient: The villain using Hunter for nefarious purposes is an animal rights activist who dreams of banning hunting altogether. On foreign soil, “officially and legally” they cannot gather evidence, question witnesses, or make arrests. Meredith wants to turn herself in, but Bea reminds her that this will ruin her relationship with Josh.
