About this deal

I enjoyed the premise of this book so much and then after reading the first impression, knew I had to read this novel. Arjun and Madhuri’s relationship as friends and how it grew into something more, or even just learning that it could, looks like it's the focus of this story but there is so much self-acceptance you get to watch happen. Having been bullied for it in the past, and now faced with her culture now becoming a “trend”, Madhuri both yearns to embrace her identity and fears it.

His astrological reading destines him for success, and he resolves to use his year of good luck to show Madhuri that they should be more than just childhood best friends. After graduation, she will be attending medical school at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown, New York. She did so in many ways, and I particularly loved that Bharatanatyam was such a huge part of Madhuri’s identity.

She really just used and abused* him the whole book, and he was this doting lovesick little puppy the whole time. and then separately, madjuri has a family curse where the women always marry the first man they date.

also, the fake dating/experiment plot confused me and just had me dreading what the fallout might be from the beginning. Told over the course of one academic year, this collection of stories set on the same fictional campus features students from different cultures, genders, and interests learning more about who they are and who they want to be.

In this charming YA debut, a girl who’s determined to prove her star chart wrong ropes her longtime best friend into an experimental relationship–not knowing that he has been in love with her for years. It is so important for the reader to get connected with the characters and while I did feel somewhat connected with Arjun, I just could not stand Madhuri. I highly recommend it, and I’m looking forward to reading more stories from Devarajan in the future! The two have been friends since they were little so to just flip the switch and have everything happen so quickly felt kind of off?

Doomed for her upcoming senior year to be a total failure, according to her astrology-obsessed mother, and doomed to a happily ever after with her first boyfriend, according to her family legacy. Both of them see their fates differently, Arjun using it to guide him and reading into this future and who it might be.

In this charming YA debut, a girl who’s determined to prove her star chart wrong ropes her longtime best friend into an experimental relationship—not knowing that he has been in love with her for years. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. okay update i did read it and obviously i'm going to be biased because ananya is my bestie but this book is genuinely so good! As Madhuri starts to fall for her experimental boyfriend, she’ll have to decide if charting her own destiny is worth breaking Arjun’s heart—and her own.On the bright side, I liked the way the author deals with Madhuri's struggle to embrace her culture in a foreign country and loved all the references to the Indian culture; the food, the costumes and dances, it's like a desi fairytale. Determined to prove the existence of her free will, Madhuri devises an experimental relationship with the one boy she knows she’ll never fall for.
