About this deal

We’re all protective of the Trainspotting legacy and we want to make a film that adds to that legacy and doesn’t take away from it. The story stops a bit too abruptly, I was just starting to get into it when it quickly wrapped into a unsatisfying conclusion. Set in Leith in the early 1980s, it introduces the Trainspotting characters and follows them as they fall into heroin addiction. One night, a DJ from his hometown (Carl Ewart from Welsh's previous novel Glue) plays at one of his clubs and recognises him.

Has turned to religion in an attempt to cure his alcoholism and distance himself from his former friends. A sequel to The Blade Artist, entitled Dead Men's Trousers, was released on 29 March 2018, and sees Mark Renton, Sick Boy, and Spud reuniting with Francis Begbie. Danny Boyle Planning for TRAINSPOTTING Sequel in 2016 with Original Cast: 'You Want to Make Sure You Don't Disappoint People' ". You sense he enjoys his own company, too, that he would happily spend all day listening to himself telling stories. Now he’s 59, a few months short of a pensioner’s bus pass, and he’s getting rose-tinted about the good old bad old days. Simon and Renton consider themselves educated, elite, aloof enough to be above the heavily accented vocabulary of their countrymen, lapsing only into dialect when rattled or excited.

Sam Leith, writing in the Financial Times, argues that: "Welsh's concerns are with sin and salvation, with the exercise of free will and with the individual soul. Danny 'Spud' Murphy has been regularly attending group sessions in an attempt to kick his drug habit. As the two converse, Sick Boy considers the merciless trait of opportunity and threat accompanying Begbie's release. Prior to London, the show visits Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on 13th September, King’s Theatre in Glasgow on 15th-16th September, then visits three Northwest venues, Liverpool Olympia on 5th October, Crewe Lyceum on 6th October and Sale Waterside (Manchester) on 7th October. With this book however, I actually enjoyed basking in the filth with his hapless, selfish stoned protagonists, and although I never rooted for any one character, I did pity many of them, thus eliciting some sort of necessary empathy to justify reading on. Kevin Murphy’s Spud, bald and bearded, has added an edge of despair to his puppyish charm; his entrance begging for money is chillingly believable. In Marabou Stork Nightmares there’s this rape scene that goes on and on, and I thought, this is just a bit of writing.

In 2007, Welsh published If You Liked School You'll Love Work, his first collection of short stories in over a decade. The first story of the three is slightly more bizarre than I've come to expect but still entertaining.

Indeed, the use of language is so thrilling, so rapid fire, that it’s difficult not to feel a twinge of disappointment when the narrative shifts back to the standard English of Nikki. A story can be nasty and funny by all means if it’s handled correctly, but nasty and silly is a hard to stomach.
