Sure, there are some noticeable compromises, but it brings the same impressive core technology within reach of a much wider audience. More modes doesn’t necessarily mean a better result: in our testing we found modes mostly differed only by the intensity of the oscillating action and the time spent brushing each part of your mouth.
Whether it was intentional or not, I do not know, but the 4 styles of iO specific heads are marginally bigger. Even if you don’t use the app, it’s a hit with kids thanks to the replaceable stickers and the built-in timer and jingle.
The Ultimate Clean and Gentle Care heads should still provide a great clean to the teeth and braces of your sons. The more advanced models have sophisticated pressure and motion sensors to allow them to track your brush’s progress around the mouth and make sure you’re reaching every corner, and not skimping on the back teeth or the areas behind your teeth. If it’s the same then I agree with your assessment of the 7 being the better deal BUT if the motor and battery are better than I would def opt for the series 9.Yes, the 6000 connects to the phone and provides some feedback, but not real-time tracking to show which teeth have and have not been brushed. Like Oral-B’s Genius 9000 and iO9, the Genius X also offers multiple brushing modes and gum pressure detection, with the 360-degree smart ring glowing red when you apply too much pressure. Bundled extras such as a travel case can also come in handy, particularly if it allows the brush to charge in situ via an adaptor or a USB cable.
