About this deal

It’s basic, with just one setting, but you do get a timer, with the brush pulsing every 30 seconds and switching itself off after two minutes. While we can’t measure the impact of Suri’s green mission, we’re definitely on board with the concept, which is made all the easier because the toothbrush itself is one of the best we’ve tested. It’s worth having Bluetooth connectivity and smart app support, but only if you’re going to use them.

I don’t believe it is a reason to ditch a perfectly functional brush in preference of the iO6, but it is a benefit should you make the switch. But electric toothbrushes can only damage teeth and gums in this way if excess pressure is applied, so always make sure you allow the movement of the toothbrush to do all the hard work. Older reviews on the Costco page say it’s the Genius 6000 but it has 6 brushing modes not 5 like the Genius 6000 and one of the more recent reviews says this: As of 10/2020 the handle model is type 3765, which includes smartphone camera-based position detection and tongue cleaning mode. Most importantly, though, this is a big step up in cleaning from manual brushes or cheaper battery models, and you can kit out the whole family without breaking the bank. It looks sleek and stylish, is compact, has an optional self-cleaning case and an optional magnetic mount for storing it on your bathroom mirror. The Series 7 has a black and white interactive display compared to the color display on the Series 9.

Sure, there are some noticeable compromises, but it brings the same impressive core technology within reach of a much wider audience. What’s more, this is one of the few Oral-B brushes that doesn’t feature any vibrating 3D action to break down plaque and work in between your teeth, just a simple, back-and-forth oscillation to clean the surface. More modes doesn’t necessarily mean a better result: in our testing we found modes mostly differed only by the intensity of the oscillating action and the time spent brushing each part of your mouth.

Whether it was intentional or not, I do not know, but the 4 styles of iO specific heads are marginally bigger. Even if you don’t use the app, it’s a hit with kids thanks to the replaceable stickers and the built-in timer and jingle.

The Ultimate Clean and Gentle Care heads should still provide a great clean to the teeth and braces of your sons. The more advanced models have sophisticated pressure and motion sensors to allow them to track your brush’s progress around the mouth and make sure you’re reaching every corner, and not skimping on the back teeth or the areas behind your teeth. If it’s the same then I agree with your assessment of the 7 being the better deal BUT if the motor and battery are better than I would def opt for the series 9.Yes, the 6000 connects to the phone and provides some feedback, but not real-time tracking to show which teeth have and have not been brushed. Like Oral-B’s Genius 9000 and iO9, the Genius X also offers multiple brushing modes and gum pressure detection, with the 360-degree smart ring glowing red when you apply too much pressure. Bundled extras such as a travel case can also come in handy, particularly if it allows the brush to charge in situ via an adaptor or a USB cable.
