As the name suggests, a low-friction MIPS liner is included as standard equipment, with the claimed benefit of reducing rotational forces transmitted to the brain — and, thus, the chances of a traumatic brain injury — during an impact. Sure to shave seconds off your performances, the Vanquish MIPS Helmet has been designed with TranformAir technology that shapes and manipulates airflow to reduce drag and increase efficiency. Much will depend on your own bank balance and how important shaving those seconds from your rides will be. The Vanquish is expensive, so I like that the shell wraps around the whole underside of the EPS core, offering greater protection from accidental damage.

Giro claims that it is near the Synthe in terms of cooling and in our (fairly nonscientific) head test, we felt it was a claim that at the very least passed our test. Allowing a constant flow of cooling air to permeate through the helmet, the ten featured wind tunnel vents prevent you from overheating in hot climates and when you're giving it your all and aiming for that podium finish. This means the cost is deducted from your salary as a non-cash benefit, so you save on tax and national insurance.It also features reflective details for visibility in low light conditions, quick-drying internal padding, an insect net to keep critters out of your locks, and a ratchet lock for easy securing. The outer shell is also integrated smoothly into the EPS core to complete a smart and classy aesthetic, although anyone wanting a hi-vis colour scheme will be disappointed by the more muted options of the Ano Blue seen here, plus black and red, charcoal, black and white options. The most striking thing about the Eclipse is how small it looks out of the box, to the point where I had to double check I was sent the right medium size.
