About this deal

In this warm, intimate and humorous book, rich with nostalgia and unexpected intimate detail, Gary Barlow unpacks the people, music, places, things and cultural phenomena that have made him the man that he is. Heidi Klum reveals behind-the-scenes look of THAT Peacock Halloween costume (which took SIX HOURS to complete!

It was comedians I was sharing a bill with at the Talk Of The Coast: huge stars – Ken Dodd, Bob Monkhouse, Cannon and Ball.He points out the ease at making healthy, quick meals but I still think that’s difficult for people on a budget or who just don’t have the time. Gary, again, mentions that it’s all be told before - but a part of me felt like this was a bit of a cop out to tell some really interesting stories about what went in back in the original haydays of the band. Sometimes, such brutal honesty is something which gets lost in this world of social media and glitz and glamour. The only real drama happens when Barlow sinks gratefully on to his piano stool (he looks like he’s coming home whenever he gets near a Yamaha) and begins to sing.

After the band split in 1996, Gary Barlow embarked on a solo career which saw him achieve three number one singles, two number one albums and a further six singles charting in the top ten. My babysitters were TT fans, I was too late to the party, Robbie was already a bad boy with a solo career when I started to listen to anything that was not curated by the conservatory. Although Robbie had become a successful solo artist, Gary was happily married to Dawn and had two beautiful kids. Since the initial conception it evolved into a memoir, but it is quite clear which sections were intended for its original iteration. The show tells the story of Barlow's life in his own words reflecting on his career, friendships and personal life. His singing is still properly powerful – authentic, emotional and intriguingly enigmatic – and it’s a thrill to experience it at such close quarters. I would also recommend this to anyone who enjoys celebrity autobiographies, as more is covered than just Take That stuff. So in A Different Stage, this is me opening the curtains and sharing moments nobody has heard or seen before . There's a strong dose of nostalgia too as he dedicates much of the book to his successes and failures in the music industry and beyond.
