About this deal

Alongside the rich composition and sharp lyrics, the bright, glowing warmth of the vinyl medium underscores the emotional resonance of each note and lyric. If we're also speaking on production and mixing choices, the end of "Glitter" is one of the most euphoric moments on the entire record.

Tyler says "Let's take it back to them days/Counting sheep on Sadie Hannah's floor" which refers to the time before and during the release of his debut mixtape Bastard (2009) when he lived in his grandmother's house. Paul Lester of The Guardian wrote: "If anything, Flower Boy captures Tyler at his least tormented and twisted; it is an album of exquisitely arranged, melodious synth-rap, wistful and reflective, heavy on the heavenly. Produced entirely by Tyler, the album features guest vocals from a range of artists, including Frank Ocean, ASAP Rocky, Anna of the North, Lil Wayne, Kali Uchis, Steve Lacy, Estelle, Jaden Smith and Rex Orange County. a] "Foreword" incorporates elements of " Spoon (Sonic Youth Remix)", written by Michael Karoli, Jaki Liebezeit, Irmin Schmidt, Holger Schuering, and Damo Suzuki, as performed by Can. Lonely" as "look[ing] at the overarching theme of loneliness, on two contrasting, but equally intriguing beats" and stated that the song "represents a further maturation in sound, and apparently his problems too".

Tyler’s lyrical eloquence, combined with his refined, lush production, creates an auditory experience akin to a blooming flower, revealing new layers with each listen. Flower Boy is a defining moment within Tyler's career, highlighting a shift from adolescence to adulthood. Tyler noted the works of Max Martin, Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake as musical inspirations for the album. I remember I was traveling through NYC when I first heard this album, I was still in high school at the time, and even then I noticed a shift in maturity in Tyler, the Creator's aesthetic.

finally bit the bullet and decided to grab a pressing of this at target and my label on side b was puffed up so i had to pull it off to find another label underneath, and side d had like fingerprints on it. Lyrical Layering: The cascading lyrics on "Flower Boy" offer a multilayered listening experience that encourages repeated discovery. The ideas established in albums like Cherry Bomb or Wolf such as the sweetest and warmest synthesizers and a more personal writing end up fitting in Flower Boy, where T finds his space with revealing and personal lyrics, he opens his personality to all of us with spectacular themes like Garden Shed or Boredom. A little hard to imagine that this album came out roughly 5 years ago, and to this day this is still one of my all time favorites, especially from Tyler. Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands. It's not all dreamy—watch out for the occasional profane pothole—but largely this is the work of an evolved artist and mature person. Musical Mastery: Tyler's proficient production skill shines throughout the album, proving him a masterful musician. I mentioned in my Igor review that it was my second favorite Tyler album… this is the first, by a wide margin. Back then Tyler was so obsessed with his media perception, you know what I mean, that edgy teen persona he'd wear at all times, it was all he really worked on and it got in the way of his music a lot.

Tyler The Creator - Flower Boy Vinyl Album

Vinyl Intimacy: The vinyl version of "Flower Boy" enhances the auditory experience, fostering a more intimate connection with Tyler's self-reflective journey. With Flower Boy, Tyler decided to take a more personal approach compared to his previous album, Cherry Bomb, stating "For Cherry Bomb I purposely was like, I don't want to get personal at all. This was especially interesting because his lyrics in previous albums were considered homophobic and led to him being banned from entering the United Kingdom for three to five years in 2015. Tyler, The Creator has ceaselessly pushed the boundaries of what's expected, both in his music and broader societal norms.I may find it nowhere near as fun or quotable as when I first listened to it nearly 5+ years ago, but it’s still a quality release. I heard this album on release and at the time I was so shocked and baffled by the improvement in quality Tyler had made. Andy Kellman of AllMusic describes the overall lyrical content of the album as Tyler's "least vulgar release" compared to the shock value lyrics in his previous projects.
