One of the last great modern Christmas films, Elf benefits greatly from my favorite performance of Will Ferrell's and the great supporting cast. However, the film is unable to avoid falling into the usual cliches and stereotypes that Christmas films usually follow. When he surprises her in the employee lounge (complete with shower) as she sings "Baby It's Cold Outside", it's a magical moment, one of many that starts with the sight of Santa's real village.Having not seen this until now, I felt like a complete freeze miser for unintentionally missing it, although I did see the musical on Broadway in 2012.

What more could a fantasy film deliver, and a a bonus the plaintive voice of YES front man Jon Anderson singing the song over the final credits. The story follows one of Santa's elves named Buddy who, after finding out that he's adapted, goes looking for his human father in New York City. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results. This film pays great tribute to our modern Christmas culture with references to the Franken-Bass TV specials of my childhood and even gets a very funny Keebler elf reference in as well. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use.I am sorry that I did not ever get to hear the Goldsmith score, but I thought the Tangerine Dream score was very fitting. Can Buddy sort all this out and connect with his dad or will the audience leave the theater feeling depressed and miserable (yeah, right! We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads. Ferrell in particular is good at this kind of physical comedy, and there's a certain charm to his performance.
