At its Computex 2019 keynote in May, Dell unveiled the second generation of its affordable G3 15 series gaming laptop, and I was there to give it a try.
We struggled to get playable framerates in 4K with settings not lowered to the bottom, but if you stick with 1080p, you’ll be quite happy with the results. The resolution is the modern standard, and looks sharp, without being extra-demanding for budget-friendly components (more on those in a moment). The biggest letdown on last year’s G3 15 was the dim, inaccurate display, so I’m really hoping this year’s model has a much-improved panel. It does what it needs to do and is accurate enough that we didn’t really run into any actual problems while using it. No matter what the source, the command center gives you easy access to your games and the ability to fine-tune settings for each one.

Gamers won’t be caught dead using the touchpad while gaming anyway, though, so saving a few bucks here isn’t the worst idea.The keys have a bit of feedback, but the action is on the mushy side at the end of a press, and you may feel some flex on the keyboard deck. It’s not glass, so tracking doesn’t feel accurate, which you’ll notice most in detailed work like selecting text or carefully moving windows.
