Comfort food tastes so good while I’m eating it, but the feeling doesn’t last once the food is gone… I’m frustrated with myself for eating something that ultimately makes my life harder. It’s also a book for people who don’t have a "lifetime" worth of stuff, but want to declutter, make every space look bigger, and be easier to pick up.

Maybe its an indication that I really am on the verge of being contained and organized that I’m pretty sure I’m secure in the knowledge of what I own and where it lives. The single biggest mind-set change, the greatest moment of understanding, the most impactful I-can-let-go-of-my-stuff pivot in my cluttered home didn’t come from hearing an inspirational speech or experiencing an emotional trauma. I had watched "Nony" on YouTube many times, but (very wrongly) thought her books wouldn't have much substance.I definitely didn’t make up the word clutter, but I did make up a definition for it that helped me get it out of my house. Ensure that every new item brought into your space comes with the departure of an existing item, ensuring equilibrium. I can’t personally wear them, because I have issues with things being wrapped around my neck, but some people love them.

They also guide future purchases, as any potential new item must also fit into a predetermined space. After all, they are the ones who strung these words together to create sentences that turned into paragraphs, pages, then chapters. This book has turned everything on its head for me and made me look at my stuff differently, with the love it deserves but with the balance of reason which has come from someone who truly understands. I plan to read this book a second time as it inspired me to actually donate six bags and boxes of household items to a local charity. I found the reminders of how to navigate the complications of helping others to be where I hit pay dirt because I do share my living space with others and I have been asked to come help others or help clear out for others. this is written like Dana is in my head, her decluttering mindset pre decluttering, is exactly where I was coming from. Resist the urge to get larger containers; the goal here is to limit accumulation, not accommodate it.

But then I saw your blog and decided that if Decluttering at the Speed of Life worked for you, then I should read it. But as long as I was using containers incorrectly, I was never going to reach that State of Organization. That also covers decluttering in some depth, so not sure you need both books, but loved them both anyway. Finally, assist them in setting up an easy-to-follow organizing system, prioritize proper storage solutions and encourage its maintenance. Practice this consistently, and you’ll find the cycle gradually diminish, ensuring a clean, functional living space. This pattern starts with the acquisition of items, followed by a failure to discard outdated or unnecessary possessions, ultimately resulting in accumulation. However, I put this on hold last August, so when you wait that long for a book to come through on the Libby app…. Then, after going over her method and steps and how to address different types of household spaces, she went over how to deal with other's clutter.

I have stood in my own home, completely overwhelmed, crying tears of frustration and hopelessness over my inability to deal with the sheer volume of clutter. They were all written, not by hoarders but by people who are tidy and simply think they can teach a hoarder to be tidy and throw their stuff away and that doesn’t and can’t work.
