A Boy and His Blob is a remake of a fantastic retro platformer, where you play as the titular boy and must make your way through levels by using jellybeans to transform your gelatinous pal.

Along with the new island, Bugsnax also added a house for your character to live in and decorate, along with a mailbox where you’ll receive furniture and new quests. There may be a lot of games you want to try on the new PS5 console, but if you're looking for a palate cleanser between the bigger, flashier games, Bugsnax is the perfect aperitif to your next-gen feast. The first-person perspective controls and camera take a bit getting used to and don’t feel as tight and responsive as I would have preferred.So play it, embrace it, leave behind your expectations and get your hands on the first ticket out to Bugsnax Island. This is something I’d recommend doing, though – although some side missions are a series of dull fetch quests, others result in the most spectacular encounters Bugsnax has to offer. When the Bugsnak is in the range of your trap, the light on your wristwatch will turn from white to blue, and you’ll hear a ping to indicate the perfect time to activate the trap. And while not being much of a technical showcase for the PlayStation 5’s launch, Snaktooth Island is definitely a place worth visiting for the wildlife on show alone – just try not to eat too many.

After you get a new Grumpus back to Snaxburg, they will begin asking you to take part in optional side quests to further flesh out their stories. On top of the new content, the indie game has been released on other platforms too, like the Nintendo Switch and Xbox. It’s just the right amount of content to remind you why the game is so fun if the ending left you traumatized like it did me. They are boy games, and then there are mummy’s boy games, and this maternal adventure is one sure to stop you in your tracks and make you do something very dangerous – it’s going to make you think.In most cases, these smaller missions provide nothing more than some extra story about the residents you share the island with. Loading up your Sauce Slinger with various sauces is important for catching Bugsnax that require some persuasion to catch. That said, if you are looking for a game that isn’t really long and you don’t mind repetitive side quests, there is definitely some fun to be had here.
