Each idea sits in a dedicated chapter, presented in a conversational style (“You might not know the word procrastinate, or maybe you’ve heard it before but are not sure exactly what it means. The interesting and fun challenges fade, and the ordinary, boring, inglorious work necessary to bring an idea to the world becomes the reality. It’s quite an unusual word”) and explained with accessible scenarios (“Imagine you have something you need to do for school. These encourage deeper, more abstract thoughts, and the entire pursuit of philosophic thinking starts here.

Another great resource from the school of life about practical philosophy - this time aimed at kids. As a teacher something I'm always trying to encourage in students is to question, to query and to think about things ; this book is a ready made resource for this, with a variety of topics covered so the young person reading it is bound to find something to pique their interest. I feel this book would give the reader confidence to ask questions and realise the importance of asking ‘why? It would be hard for a non-fiction book to reach a full A, but this one got bumped up from a B+ because of the sheer number of times I chanted, "AMEN! An invaluable, essential resource that demystifies and democratizes design for everyone who lives with it—which is to say, all of us.One thing I have learned over the years is that children ponder life's big questions too; not just us adults. In my opinion, one of the great wonders of reading is that no matter how much you think you know, a well written book can always remind you of the things that matter.

This compassionate work also imparts the hows of being compassionate and empathetic to others, and the language is always clear.LP and I have worked through this book together and she immediately understood the wise and unwise concepts in it. Each word is considered for its purposes and sentences are crafted so that the reader can grasp the point quickly and easily, and they are lead to keep reading. Yet sadly, too often, this inborn curiosity is not developed and, as they grow up, the questions fall away. The focus of these chapters are incredibly meaningful, some of my favourites include 'People are unhappy, not mean', 'Learn to say what s on your mind', 'Good things are (unexpectedly) hard' and 'Politeness matters'. Through a series of thought-provoking questions, it encourages young thinkers to engage with profound ideas and consider their own perspectives on the world.
