About this deal

They sound confident and insightful too, revealing layers of low-level information and organising every track they are faced with into a structured and cohesive whole. Transparency mode isn’t even that effective; I can barely hear my environment with it being enabled. There's a pair of earbuds for everyone on this list, including budget wired headphones and premium models, plus noise-cancelling headphones and Bluetooth headphones, too. So, why would you even consider spending this kind of money on a pair of in-ears for your smartphone or portable music player?

The 425 sounded sparklier and is more prone to peakiness in the upper-mids, while the AONIC4 sound more linear and refined with more stable imaging (a bit more resolving). Multipoint Bluetooth, which lets you switch seamlessly between devices, has arrived as part of a software update, and while the lack of support for aptX HDandLDAC is disappointing, it's not the end of the world at this level. This is a pretty typical result for true wireless earbuds and what you should expect to get out of any products of this type. We play Mogwai’s Ceiling Granny and there’s meat and grubbiness behind the oppressive guitar lines, not to mention hefty sting to the blistering electric squeals. Still, the AONIC 215 comes up short in almost every other aspect of what you'd want from a pair of portable buds. The Shure AONIC 215 is the company’s take on what a good-sounding pair of true wireless earbuds should be, but what is that, exactly? If you’re looking for quality active noise canceling, the Shure AONIC 50 is a great pair of wireless headphones with some of the best noise canceling on the market.

Either way, the superb level of comfort, sound quality, and great feature set make these in-ear headphones easy to recommend. They’re lightweight, and the fact the headphone cable can be secured over the top of your ears instead of just hanging down means the Aonics feel secure at all times. I felt that the mids weren't as pure as the AONIC3, and they were more colored, warmer, and less clear or sparkly. Clever features including wireless charging cases, noise-cancelling and touch controls are all boxes that can be ticked by earbuds that cost less than the Shure Aonic 3.

Battery life is competitive at seven and a half hours, although the fact the charging case can only offer one extra charge seems a little stingy.
