About this deal

It has a 37mm diameter like many Seiko 5 models and a very condensed 42mm lug to lug dimension. This means it’ll fit comfortably on most people’s wrists without hanging over the edge, even on those with smaller wrists. I thought it didn’t work, I set the time gave it a few shakes and to my amazement it works perfectly!

From the humble-yet-mighty 5 series all the way up to Grand Seiko timepieces, the range of Seiko’s prices is wide. Collectors will find plenty of modest and high-end options, but Seiko is a solid option overall for the casual watch-wearer looking for extreme quality at surprisingly approachable price points. Seiko is known for generally having very strong lume on their watches, but some of the Seiko 5 models fall short in this area. You could also wear a 20mm NATO, Perlon, or Leather strap, as long as you still use 19mm spring bars. It’ll be a bit of a snug fit, but it’ll encompass the entire length of the spring bar, and nobody will ever notice that 1mm difference. SNXS79 Dimensions and Comfort The first time I owned it, I liked it. But I didn’t love it. At the time, I didn’t have many other watches to compare it to. If there is a SNKL45J1 it is made in Japan, has "Made in Japan" written on the dial and is more likely to have Arabic as the second language on the day dial.

Between this model alone, there’s the SNXS79K1 and SNXS79J1. A Malaysian and Japanese version, respectively. The Malaysian version (K1) has a Spanish day wheel, and the J1 has a Kanji date wheel. The differences end there (aside from the price). SNK355 vs SNXS79K The SNKL45J2, SNKL45K2 and SNKL45P2 models, if they exist, would have a different band style or material.

When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge! Seiko’s exclusive 7S26 calibre automatic movement powers this watch, it consists of 21 jewels and it offers an accuracy of -20/+40 seconds per day. This watch has a water resistance of 30 metres, meaning it should only be exposed to light splashes of water. The good news is, this raises the entire watch off your wrist a bit and gives you a bit of extra wiggle room when moving your wrist around, adding to the overall comfort. While no official statement has been given by Seiko on why the SARB033 & SARB035 were discontinued, there is quite a bit of speculation. The good news is, there is clearly no shortage of Seiko 5s to choose from, and even if the SNXS79 doesn’t do it for you, there are plenty of other expensive-looking Seiko 5s to choose from. Why I Bought the SNXS79 Thrice (Yes, Three Times) It helps that it’s so light and weightless, making it good to wear in warmer summer months. It also surprisingly doesn’t tug on my arm hairs like some other cheap bracelets tend to. SNXS79 Strap Choices and Suggestions I own both the SARB033 and the Star RE-AU0004B00B, and despite the fact that the SARB was known for its finish and attention to detail, side-by-side, the Orient Star’s level of finish is even more refined.

But if the SNXS79 is your only watch, you might as well get the exact size strap to fit it, which is 19mm. The bit of extra height does help to add a touch of extra wrist presence, though not by much. 7S26 Movement The SZSB012 also disregards some of the design elements that made the SARB so great, like its multi-leveled and multi-finished case design, so that may be a bummer to some who wanted the SARB for its wow factor, and level of refinement. If there is a SNKL45K1 or SNKL45P1 it is made elsewhere in Asia, does not say "Made in Japan" on the dial and is more likely to have Spanish as the second language for the day. I also like the case design better on the SNKL45, albeit I haven't seen the SNKL23 in person so that could change my opinion about the watch overall. The only thing I prefer on the latter is perhaps the second hand, which isn't red. I might grow to like the red second hand more if I had the watch for a while, who knows. It doesn’t take much sunlight to charge it, either. Just a few minutes standing in direct sunlight and the lume will be fully charged and ready to go. Seriously, looks amazing. Also, I wouldn't let an article written on the other to influence my decision. Not sure why you mentioned it. It’s complemented by a powerful 6R35 movement, a very minor improvement over the SARB033/035’s 6R15.

I think the brushing on the bracelet kind of looks out of place – like it doesn’t belong on this watch. Especially since there are absolutely no brushed surfaces on the case to tie the look together. As my appreciation for watches (and my watch collection) grew, I began to appreciate the little aspects and nuances of a watch, more. Because you asked for opinions, I'll give you mine, but ultimately the decision is for you to make. The two watches are quite similar and I suppose they are so in pricing as well (?). They both have the same movement, same handset and similar overall design. I personally like the simpler design of the SNKL45 dial with a uniform texture on the dial and no framing on the day-date complication. The lume on the "inner" side of the indices also looks better in my opinion and works better with the lume on the handset which doesn't reach all the way to the tip of the hands, making the SNKL45 more legible in the dark as the lume pips are closer to the lume on the handset, if that's of any concern for you. The pips, however, look slightly bigger on the on the SNKL23 so they might glow better and longer but I don't really know if this is the case. While not a direct replacement for the SARB033/035, the SBDC087 has some of the design queues that we know and love from the SARB and expands upon them in a slightly larger 40mm case. The Orient Star Automatic lineup is an extremely underrated series of dress watches that hits all of the same notes that the SARB did, and maybe some even better.

Essentially a more affordable version of the SARB033, the SZSB012 takes all of the design queues of the SARB but cuts a few corners in its overall fit and finish to keep costs down. That’s how I’m able to appreciate the value proposition of the SNXS79 so much more, this time around. In fact, their modern Prospex Alpinist lineup is some of my favorites yet. If you’re someone who loves the versatile nature of the SARB, but wants something a touch more sporty, the Seiko Prospex Alpinist SBDC087 will certainly speak to you.
