About this deal

Blake from Manchester, TnProms? Good lord. It's one of my favorite Idol tunes, surpassed only by White Wedding. In 2018, Luxco opened its own distillery named Lux Row in honor of the long tree-lined drive that leads to the facility. In January 2021, Luxco was acquired by Midwest Grain Processors — MGP — the country’s largest third-party producer of sourced whiskey products.

MacLeod, J. (1996). Highlanders – A History of the Gaels. London: Hodder & Stoughton. ISBN 0-340-63991-1. The Rebel brand of bourbon whiskey, formerly known as Rebel Yell bourbon, was acquired in 1999 by the David Sherman Corporation, which was rebranded as Luxco in 2006. Lux Row Distillers is owned by Luxco, which was founded in 1958 by the Lux Family in St. Louis, Missouri. Luxco is a producer, supplier, importer, and bottler of alcohol beverage products.

For most of its existence, Luxco was a non-distillery producer — or NDP — which meant they did not own a distillery. Rebel Yell whiskey was mashed, distilled and barreled at another facility. Barrels were most likely transferred to the Luxco facility, where they were bottled and shipped to market. Every Rebel Yell variety is distilled at Heaven Hill Distillery who is owned by Lux Row Distilleries. While each variety is made using different ingredients and aging lengths, they all contain many of the same core elements which combine to make the primary mash bill that they are distilled from. The facility in which these selections are distilled use advanced equipment and technology which ensure a refined and premium taste every time. Now that we’ve gone over all of the bourbon options offered by Rebel Yell, it’s time to take a look at the main distillation and bottling process used by the company. Primary Distillation: Rebel Yell The difference between this and the standard Rebel Yell is instantly noticeable. The Aroma reminds me, a bit, of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the way the peanuts and dark fruit come together; Palate does the same but in an oakier way, like a barrel-aged PB&J; Finish is similar to the palate but with a bit of toffee for dessert. I’m enjoying this more than I thought I would. Rebel Yell Bourbon is a high-quality brand that produces over 4 different whiskey selections all of which have very distinctive taste notes and flavor infusions. The company itself has a rather rich history in terms of how their bourbon options are distilled and produced. Since there are so many different options for you to choose from, it can be difficult trying to find the perfect bourbon selection that meets all of your preferred flavor profiles and tastes.

The copywriter for Luxco already beat me to the lazy writing punch by saying it’s it’s a dialed up version of the original so I sat in front of my computer for 20 minutes trying to think of a better line to describe it and couldn’t, because it is. Having less water added to the whiskey makes a big difference as we’ll see in the bourbon review below. Crazyc63312 from Pittsburgh, Pa'Rebel Yell' is playable on the video game, Guitar Hero: World Tour. Numerous 4-year Distiller’s Collection Single Barrel offerings are also available under the Rebel Yell Bourbon name – prices also vary as they are often bottled for specific retailers and available in limited quantities. These bottles may appeal to those looking for a private-label wheated bourbon experience. Depending on your preferred flavor profile, you may find their lower-priced options more enjoyable than their higher-priced options and vice versa. Now that we’ve gone over all of the core audience in which these bourbon options are distilled for, it’s time to look at all of them in-depth. Detailed Look: Rebel Yell BourbonOne thing that you must remember regardless of which selection you choose is that all of these varieties will come with their own unique taste and flavor profiles. Several recordings of Civil War veterans performing the yell exist. One, from a 1938 newsreel documenting the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, documents several Confederate veterans performing the yell as a high-pitched "Wa-woo-woohoo, wa-woo woohoo." [4] The Library of Congress has a film from the 1930s of a dozen or so veterans performing the yell individually and as a group. [1] In 1935, a 90 year-old North Carolina veteran was recorded performing it. [3] Eye– the eye of this bourbon consists mainly of dark amber which provides a deep and rich flavor profile to the bourbon in general. Old Fashioned: Muddle 1 sugar cube, 2 dashes of bitters, and a splash of water in a glass. Add 2 oz Rebel Yell 100 and ice. Stir and garnish with an orange slice and cherry.

The merger then creates the company Stitzel-Weller in 1910 which was the catalyst for the brand Rebel Yell as it was created out of the process of this merging. The brand itself was the idea of Charles R. Famsley who was at one point the mayor of Louisville, KY. It was branded as a marker to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original Weller distillery company where it would be produced in exclusive batches for distribution around the Southern region of the United States. Rebel Yell 100 is a solid bourbon that delivers on its promises. It has a rich and complex flavor profile, with notes of caramel, sweet corn, and roasted oak. The viscous mouthfeel and bold, spicy barrel notes make for a satisfying sipping experience. The brand was originally produced in the 1930s at the Stitzel–Weller Distillery and has a wheated mash bill, like some other brands from that distillery. As indicated by its name (especially its prior name), the brand was historically marketed as being associated with the U.S. Confederacy. Until the 1980s, it was distributed only in the Southern United States.

As a no age statement — or NAS — whiskey, Rebel Bourbon does not disclose the age of the barrels used for each batch. However, by carrying the term ‘Straight Bourbon’ on the label, the youngest barrel in each batch’s blend must be aged for a minimum of two years in new oak. And since there is no statement of age, we know the whiskey is almost certainly four years old. In Ken Burns's documentary The Civil War, Shelby Foote notes that historians are not quite sure how the yell sounded, being described as "a foxhunt yip mixed up with sort of a banshee squall". He recounts the story of an old Confederate veteran invited to speak before a ladies' society dinner. They asked him for a demonstration of the rebel yell, but he refused on the grounds that it could only be done "at a run", and couldn't be done anyway with "a mouth full of false teeth and a stomach full of food". Anecdotes from former Union soldiers described the yell with reference to "a peculiar corkscrew sensation that went up your spine when you heard it" along with the comment that "if you claim you heard it and weren't scared that means you never heard it". In the final episode, a sound newsreel of a 1930s meeting of Civil War veterans has a Confederate veteran giving a Rebel yell for the occasion, sounding as a "wa-woo-woohoo". Now that you know a little bit more about the history of the company behind the brand, it’s time to look at exactly who Rebel Yell Bourbon was created for. Who was Rebel Yell Bourbon distilled for? Nose– it’s nose contains many of the same ingredients as the eye and body however you get some extra biscuit flavors infused into it making for the perfect combination of earth tones with fruit and sweetness blended inside. This selection is a very balanced and well-distilled variety that comes with dried cherry flavors throughout which adds the right amount of fruity contrast to the final blend.
